"Mr. Stover's early education was limited to about nineteen months schooling between his 7th and 18th years, but he was a real book monger reading every book he could buy or borrow. Read the Bible through at 10 and now in his 86th year, is reading it through for the 32nd time; was raised a farmer. In 1854 taught his first school, closed it on Friday and married one of his pupils on the Sunday following; embraced religion in his 13th year in the Methodist Episcopal church in Boone County, Indiana; moved to Iowa in Sept. 1856. In April, 1860, accepted the Seventh Day Adventist faith; April 1869, moved to La Bette County, Kansas where he resided for ten years. Here he helped raise up a church; was the State Conference Treasurer and Book and Periodical Librarian for the Seventh Day Adventist for Kansas Conference. In April 1879 went to Custer County, Colorado; Married 1870, commenced public labor as a minister on Texas Creek; had charge of a church of 42 members, at the time of preaching his first sermon eight persons applied for membership, following that he was ordained to the ministry. Raised a church on Beaver Creek, Fremont County, Colorado. In 1892 went to southern Oregon -- Grant's Pass and Ashland, helpt to raise a church in each, and helped each to build church houses. In 1896 the Western Oregon and Washington Conference sent him to Cascade Locks on the Columbia River to organize and bind off some work that others had raised up. In Oregon and Washington he organized 8 churches and added to their membership by his labors. Stationed at Ridgefield, Washington for the past 11 years but has been superannuated for the last few years. Can still do a fair day's work at either of his eight trades."1
