George Stover1

M, b. 6 December 1785, d. 5 May 1863
George Stover was born on 6 December 1785 at Silver Sand Spring farm on Antietam Creek, Franklin Co., PA.1,2 He was the son of Dr. George Stover and Catherine Price.1 George Stover married Anna Rader, daughter of Adam Rader and Mary Hotsinpiller, on 6 December 1810 at Virginia.1 George Stover lived on 9 September 1850 at Scott Twp., Montgomery Co., IN, Farming.2 He was Church of the Brethren, later Christian.1 He died on 5 May 1863 at Ladoga, Montgomery Co., IN, at age 77 From Fret's Stauffer History:

"About 1792 his father removed (from Franklin County, Pa.) to Botetourt County, Virginia, and settled at Amsterdam and afterwards removed to the Big Lick, now Roanoke City. George inherited a small estate from the Price family. He also owned half interest in a distillery at the foot of Mills Mountain on the Tinker Creek, which he conducted for five years. He bought a farm adjoining the Tombstone graveyard and lived thereon until Sept. 1, 1832 when he sold the farm and moved to Montgomery County, Indiana. Here he settled on a tract of 320 acres on Haw Creek near Ladoga, out of which he and his sons cleared a large farm. He lived an active and unreproachable life in church and state and died without an enemy. He was the highest type of American manhood, fully conscious of the rectitude of his own conduct and brave in the assertion of his individuality."1 He was buried in May 1863 at Ladoga Cemetery, Ladoga, Montgomery Co., IN, Findagrave #7251492.

Dr. George Stover

M, b. circa 1748, d. 12 July 1826
Dr. George Stover was born circa 1748 at Switzerland.1 He was the son of Bishop William Stover and Judith Schaeffer. Dr. George Stover immigrated in 1754; Dr. George Stover was brought to America by his parents in 1754.1 He married Catherine Price, daughter of John Preisz and Mary Ann Steiner, circa 1770. Dr. George Stover died on 12 July 1826 After his first marriage, he settled at the Kinnikinick Creek in Franklin Co., Pa. He married second about 1793, Margaret Beaver, an aunt of Governor James A. Beaver and shortly after went to Virginia, settled on a farm near Amsterdam in Botetourt County; here he practiced medicine and became distinguished as a physician. The children of his second marriage were Susan, Ann, Rebecca, William, Sarah, Nancy, Joseph, Emanuel, Joel, and an infant.

The following is taken from "Fretz's Stauffer History":
"It is said that he (Dr. George) and his brother Emanuel inherited the west half of the old homestead in Franklin County, now owned by Wesley Koontz. Dr. George afterwards sold out his interest to Emanuel, taking payment therefor in Continental scrip, which, while on his way to Virginia, became worthless, and because he could not pay for the property he had purchased in Virginia, he was thrown into prison for debt. He however had other property, all of which he gave for his freedom. It is known that Dr. Stover made visits all through Virginia and North Carolina, professionally called to see severe cases of illness.1
