He was a veteran of the Marine Corps serving in WWII and the Korean War.

Donald retired from the U. S. Postal Service after many years. After retirement, he worked for Veterans Auditorium.

One of his favorite pastimes was karaoke.

He is survived by his six children, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by funeral service at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery after the services.

1971 Graduate Is Killed In Colo. Accident

David B. Bixby, 21, of Vail, Colo., was killed Tuesday by an auto which struck him as he was walking home from work.

He was a native of Hanover and son of Mrs. Elizabeth Fitz Bixby, 21 West Chestnut St., and Roy C. Bixby, Ft. Pierce, Fla. Bixby was employed as a chef at the Holliday Inn in Vail.

He attended Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Hanover, and the Sunday School. He was a 1971 graduate of Hanover Senior High School.

Also surviving are four brothers and sisters, Andrew, Vail, Colo., Mrs. Virginia Eltz, San Diego, Calif., Sarah and Robert Bixby, 21 West Chestnut St., and his paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Pauline Hill, Danfield, Va.

Both Roy and Elizabeth had a previous marriage and divorce, per their marriage license application. Roy's first wife was Lottie Lorene Ramsey, m.1937. They had a daughter, Lottie Gray Bixby. They were divorced in 1943, Polk County, Florida.

It appears that Roy and Elizabeth were separated by 1973, per their son David's obituary.

Virginia F. Bixby

LA JOLLA, CA -- Virginia Fitz Bixby, 63, died Sunday, October 9, 2011, at her home.

She was born April 29, 1948 in Hanover.

She is survived by her brothers, Charles (Andy) and Robert; a sister, Sarah; and an aunt Caroline John. She was preceded in death by another brother, Davis. She is the former wife of Dennis of Hanover.

She was a longtime business owner dealing in antiques in the San Diego, Calif. area.

She enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends and family. She graduated from St. Joe's Academy in McSherrystown with the class of '66 and attended the University of California, San Diego, Calif., where she earned a B.S. in Political Science. She enjoyed good humor and had a real zest for adventure. She will be missed.

The family will receive friends 11 a.m. Wednesday at Emanuel United Church, 124 Broadway, Hanover.
