Born March 9, 1925 to the late Arthur and Sallie Hornback Sweeten, he lived his entire life in Kokomo and retired from Delco Electronics after many years of service. Gene married Marjorie Ulsh on December 8, 1946, who preceded him in death on October 12, 2013 after 66 years of marriage.
Gene enjoyed tinkering with electronic gadgets, and he was a quintessential targeted consumer for impulsive purchases of all kinds. Gene also loved the outdoors where he spent many hours fishing local lakes, reservoirs and streams. While he returned from these trips with extravagant stories of fish caught, there are few memories of actually having fish for any meal. Gene led a long and engaging life with an incredibly dedicated and loving wife.
Gene is survived by his children; Debra Ruedrich Jerry (Melinda) Sweeten and Sandy (Mike) Fike ten grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marjorie Sweeten; and sister, Kathrine Jacoby.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel with Pastor Eric Catron officiating.
Family and friends may call from 1:30 p.m. until service time Friday at the Funeral Home.
Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Born Feb. 20, 1921, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Harry and Ellen (Olsen) Swensen, she married John Rudolph Nieman on July 12, 1942, in Peoria. She was preceded in death by her husband in January 1983; and two brothers, Earl and Richard.
Surviving are one son, John W. Nieman of Danville; two daughters, Cynthia (Brian) Koopmans of Sorrento, Fla., and Joellen Nieman of Pekin; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Dolores worked as a secretary for the USDA Northern Regional Research Center and for Caterpillar Inc., both in Peoria, but worked most of her life as a mother and homemaker. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Pekin, where she was a deaconess and was involved in the shut-in ministry. She also was active with the Pekin Christian Women's Club. Dolores was an avid reader and loved caring for her grandchildren.
Cremation will be accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. A memorial service will be Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, at First United Presbyterian Church in Pekin, with the time to be arranged.

He enjoyed collecting, gardening, eating and Chicago sports. Earl volunteered and served as a trustee at St Mark's Lutheran in Chillicothe. He was a passionate dart ball player, highly involved in several local leagues, and bowled in several Peoria leagues.
He is survived by his brother, Mark Swendsen (Christine [May]) of Middlebury, Indiana; nephew, Craig (Jen) Swendsen of Zionsville, Indiana; and nieces, Stephanie Swendsen (Stephen Hopkins) of Austin, Texas, and Carly Swendsen of Mishawaka, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Sr; mother, Bettye Lou; and nephew, Eric.

He enjoyed collecting, gardening, eating and Chicago sports. Earl volunteered and served as a trustee at St Mark's Lutheran in Chillicothe. He was a passionate dart ball player, highly involved in several local leagues, and bowled in several Peoria leagues.
He is survived by his brother, Mark Swendsen (Christine [May]) of Middlebury, Indiana; nephew, Craig (Jen) Swendsen of Zionsville, Indiana; and nieces, Stephanie Swendsen (Stephen Hopkins) of Austin, Texas, and Carly Swendsen of Mishawaka, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Sr; mother, Bettye Lou; and nephew, Eric.
