Another great-grandfather, Landon Carter (1760–1800), was a Revolutionary War veteran for whom Carter County was named. Taylor's uncle, Landon Carter Haynes, was a leading East Tennessee Democrat during the Civil War, and served in the Confederate Senate. Taylor was a cousin of Nathaniel Edwin Harris, who served as Governor of Georgia from 1915 to 1917.

Taylor married Jennie Anderson in 1881, and they had ten children together. Their son, Robert Love Taylor (1899–1987), named for Alfred's brother, became a United States federal judge."

Note: One of Ben's sisters, Mary or Nancy, married a Burden man and gave birth to a son William in September, 1892. "Willie" Burden was listed in the 1900 census as Ben's nephew, living with Ben and his mother (Willie's grandmother). The same individual was listed as Willie "Burton" in the 1910 census, boarding and employed as a railroad laborer. He may well be the "W. D." Burden with wife Ila, listed in Dallas County, Texas in 1920. Online genealogies for William David Burden, born 22 SEP 1890 or 1892 in Arkansas, died 12 DEC 1954 in Bowie County, Texas, do not show his parents.
