Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are a granddaughter, Daianara Dawn Bedilion; five brothers, Jack, Kenneth, Carl, Fred and Johnny Tharp; and a sister, Pauline Strope.

Following graduation from Middlebury College, Thayer was a United States Army Artillery officer from 1966-1968 and achieved the rank of Captain. He served his country with distinction as an officer in Vietnam. Upon receiving his M.B.A. from Columbia University, Thayer worked for thirty years at Anheuser-Busch & Co. as a finance executive. There he served as a Corporate Vice President, overseeing treasury, accounting, investor relations and risk management at varying times in his career. He retired from the Company in 1998 and served as a consultant until 2000.
Thayer served numerous volunteer organizations including Inroads, Inc., the St. Louis Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, John Burroughs School and Manchester United Methodist Church. He remained a part-time resident of St. Louis for the remainder of his life. Thayer moved to Wolfeboro, NH in 1999, where he quickly established himself as a leader in the community.
Thayer is survived by his wife of 39 years, Candace, his two sons, Jack and Matthew, their wives Ashley and Cathy, respectively, four grandchildren and his brother Douglas.

MADISON - Richard G. "Dick" Thayer, age 83, of Madison, passed away on Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at Agrace HospiceCare.
He was born on March 20, 1930, in Madison, the son of George and Ruth (Barlow) Thayer. Dick graduated from Madison East High School in 1949. He then entered the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served for 22 years, including a tour of duty during the Korean War. He was married to Carol Lange, whom preceded him in death in 1983. Dick then married Shirley Ann Nabholz on Aug. 10, 1986, in Madison. Dick and Shirley's families were close friends growing up. He worked for the Federal Communication Commission for 18 years, retiring in 1988. Dick loved spending time with his family and always had treats handy for the neighborhood dogs. He was an avid Redskins and Packers fan (depending on if he was living in Maryland or Wisconsin at the time). Dick and Shirley enjoyed many vacations, especially their time spent in Hawaii, Alaska, and the frequent trips to visit family in Maryland. Dick had a great sense of humor and enjoyed giving and receiving gag gifts.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Timothy, Robert, Thomas, Teresa (David) Brengle, and William (Missy); stepdaughters, Kristy (Gordon) Meicher, Vicki Nabholz, Karen (Mark) Zimmerman, and Sharon (David) Lehrer; many grandchildren; many step-grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. In addition to his first wife, Carol, he was preceded in death by his parents; his stepson, Kenneth Nabholz; and his step-grandson, Brandon Zimmerman.
Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at noon on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday. Memorials may be made to a Veteran's charity of your choice or the Dane County Humane Society. MADISON - Richard G. "Dick" Thayer, age 83, of Madison, passed away on Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at Agrace HospiceCare.
He was born on March 20, 1930, in Madison, the son of George and Ruth (Barlow) Thayer. Dick graduated from Madison East High School in 1949. He then entered the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served for 22 years, including a tour of duty during the Korean War. He was married to Carol Lange, whom preceded him in death in 1983. Dick then married Shirley Ann Nabholz on Aug. 10, 1986, in Madison. Dick and Shirley's families were close friends growing up. He worked for the Federal Communication Commission for 18 years, retiring in 1988. Dick loved spending time with his family and always had treats handy for the neighborhood dogs. He was an avid Redskins and Packers fan (depending on if he was living in Maryland or Wisconsin at the time). Dick and Shirley enjoyed many vacations, especially their time spent in Hawaii, Alaska, and the frequent trips to visit family in Maryland. Dick had a great sense of humor and enjoyed giving and receiving gag gifts.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Timothy, Robert, Thomas, Teresa (David) Brengle, and William (Missy); stepdaughters, Kristy (Gordon) Meicher, Vicki Nabholz, Karen (Mark) Zimmerman, and Sharon (David) Lehrer; many grandchildren; many step-grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. In addition to his first wife, Carol, he was preceded in death by his parents; his stepson, Kenneth Nabholz; and his step-grandson, Brandon Zimmerman.
Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at noon on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday. Memorials may be made to a Veteran's charity of your choice or the Dane County Humane Society.
