Diane Laurice "Dee" (Blanchard) Stryker, age 81, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on September 26, 2017 of natural causes.

Diane was born April 9, 1936, in Pipestone, Minnesota to Dr. Russell and Helen (Brand) Blanchard. She graduated from Forreston High School in 1954, and then attended Rockford Business School. She worked as assistant to the minister of Second Congregational Church in Rockford, Illinois. Later she worked as an administrative assistant at the Ingersoll-Rand Company in Rockford, IL, Black & Veatch in Overland Park, KS and was a tax preparer for several years at Jackson-Hewitt in Overland Park, KS.

Diane had a love of music. She sang in the church choirs anddeveloped skills as a pianist, especially in the works of classical composers. Diane loved sports including bowling, swimming, waterskiing, and golf. She was an active supporter of local politics and served as a polling judge. She enjoyed gardening, home improvement projects, and was willing to try to fix anything around the house. Diane was also a member of the Kansas City Skyliners, a social organization for tall people.

She was preceded in death by her son, Randall Stryker, former husband, Maurice Stryker, and her parents, Dr. Russell Blanchard and Helen Blanchard.
Diane is survived by three children: Denise (Gary) Duda of Delton, MI, Brian Stryker of Gaithersburg, MD, Julie Stryker of Warsaw, MO; 5 grandchildren, and her twin brother David Blanchard of Indianapolis, IN.

A private family graveside service will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210.

W.H. Blanchard, for many years a well known resident of this city, and a popular machinist in the Northwestern shops, passed away at 9:00 o’clock Tuesday morning at his home, 1548 Sixth street. He had been suffering more or less with heart trouble during the winter, but his condition was not thought serious and his sudden death comes as a severe shock to his family and friends. During Monday night he was taken suddenly worse and sank rapidly until the end came. He is survived by his widow and several children, who have the sincere sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their sorrow. The funeral services were held from the home at 2:30 o’clock this, Thursday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Geo. D. Crissman. Burial in East Linwood Park cemetery.

The funeral services for the late W.H. Blanchard whose death was mentioned last week, were held from the home, 1533 Sixth street, at 2:00 o’clock., Thursday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Geo. D. Crissman, pastor of the First M.E. church, and attended by a large number of sorrowing relatives and friends. A quartette composed of Miss Marie --, Mrs. Mabel Marston, Harvey Weaver and James McFarland, sang “Come Today” “He Knows His Own” and “Going Down the Valley”, accompanied by Miss Ima Smith on the piano. Many especially beautiful floral tributes from his fellow Northwestern employees and lodge members as well as from relatives and friends bespoke the general esteem in which he was held by all. The following pallbearers, selected from among his coworkers in the shops and from the Red Men lodge, tenderly bore his remains to their last resting place in Linwood park cemetery: John E. Kinsman, Ross Boston, John O’Connell, Ed Airhart, H.E. Foster and William Cartwright.
W.H. Blanchard was born May 22, 1859 at Trenton, Mo., where the family resided until he was four years old, when they moved to Clinton to make their home. There he received his education, and on May 4th, 1880, was married to Miss Harriett H. Foster. On July 1st 1894 they moved to Boone, where he has for the past twenty years been employed by the C.& N.W. railway company as a blacksmith. He worked steadily at his trade until three or four months ago when he began to suffer with heart trouble, and although he was unable to work, he was able to be up and about most of the time. On Monday at noon he was taken seriously ill, suffering until 10 o’clock that night lapsed into a comatose condition and passed away Tuesday morning at 9 o’clock. He leaves to mourn, besides the wife, three sons Bert F., Roy H., Glenn D., and two daughters, May and Ruth, three children, Walter and Acie, having passed away in infancy and George at the age of twenty six years.

     Dr. Daniel W. Bland was born on 28 January 1836.¹ He was the son of Edward Bland and Mary (?)¹ Dr. Daniel W. Bland began military service on 12 October 1861 Commissioned as Major,96th Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers. Promoted to Medical Inspector, 6th Corps, Army of the Potomac, 1 May 1864. Was appointed Chief Medical Officer, 1st Div.National Guard of Pennsylvania by Gov. Geary, reappointed by Gov. Hartranft for duty during riots of 1877.¹ He married Emily Pearson, daughter of Charles M. Pearson and Sarah Price Davis, on 28 October 1868, Ceremony by Rev. William P. Lewis.¹ Dr. Daniel W. Bland died on 11 March 1898 at age 62.¹

     Harriet Ayers Bland was born on 18 February 1880 at Pottsville, Schuylkill Co., PA.¹ She was the daughter of Dr. Daniel W. Bland and Emily Pearson.¹ Harriet Ayers Bland married Dr. Louis T. Kennedy, son of George W. Kennedy and Elizabeth Cunningham Morris, on 1 April 1902, No children.¹ Harriet Ayers Bland died on 21 April 1914 at age 34.¹

Captain Herbert Louis Bland began military service on 10 August 1942 Enlisted, U.S. Navy, WW II, later served in Korean and Vietnam Wars and retired with the rank of Captain. He married Stella Catherine Carr, daughter of Dr. Ransom Lee Carr and Estelle Moore, on 14 May 1949 at District of Columbia. Captain Herbert Louis Bland died on 17 March 1984 at Morehead, Carteret Co., NC, at age 63. Funeral services for Mary L. Bland, 73, of New Albany, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, at Kraft Funeral Service, Charlestown Road Chapel, New Albany, with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany. She died Saturday, April 2, 2011, at the Wedgewood Healthcare Center, Clarksville.

She was the daughter of Herbert Bland and Mary Louise (Strack) Bland. She was a native of New Albany, and resided in Clark County for 70 years, attended McCullough School and Morton Memorial Church, later becoming a member of the Nazarene Church Parkwood, Clarksville.

Survivors include her sister Alice Kellams of New Albany; nephews Kirk Kellams (Pam) of New Albany, time Kellams (Sarah) of Suwanee, Ga; grandniece Ginny Mann (Justin); and grandnephew Chip Rodgers.

She was preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Mary Bland; brother Capt. Louis Bland, U.S. Navy, retired; and sister Martha Bland.
