Dorene enjoyed being a housewife, quilting and being a foster parent to 45 children in the last 16 years.
She is survived by husband of 47 years Clarence Salter of Vaughn; daughter Yolonda Salter of Vaughn; son Elwin Salter of Corvallis; grandchildren Chantel and Zack Salter; mother Esther Trefethen of Jefferson; brothers Paul and John Trefthen of Jefferson; and sisters Judy Mosley and Carol Nollen of Jefferson.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Jefferson Cemetery, with Pastor Allan Ross officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Key Peninsula Baptist Church building fund and sent to P.O Box 833, Wauna, WA 98395.

Following her graduation, she went on to become a popular English teacher at McGuiness High School in Oklahoma City. Known to her friends as "Annie", she followed her heart and her dreams moving to a wooded, six acre lot nestled against the Ouachita Mountains nearly 20 years ago. Annie deeply loved the land and was also very engaged in her community. She taught creative writing at local colleges, supported a non-profit organic farm run by Heifer International near Spiro, and worked as a reporter and columnist for The Heavener Ledger for which she was locally famous.
Annie is survived by her three children, Ann Harlin Savage and her husband Stephen Angus, John Tilman Savage and his wife Christy, Thomas Halsell Savage and his wife Robyn, and five beautiful grandchildren, Will, Margaret Johnny, Peter and Julia.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m. at her home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Annie's Living Redbud Fund at ‘Arvest Bank in Poteau. donations will be used to plant native trees to sustain the land and give joy to generations to come.

TRENT Robert I ., M.D., died peacefully at home on February 12, 1991. He was born in Goodwill, Va. on August 24, 1907. He attended prep school at Randolph Macon Military Academy in Bedford, Va. Following prep school, he attended the University of Virginia where he received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees in medicine. At the University of Virginia Hospital, he served a year of rotating medical internship and then went on to Johns Hopkins Hospital for training in ophthalmology at the Wi lmer Eye Institute. In 1938, he joined Dr. Tullos O. Coston in the associated practice of ophthalmology in Oklahoma City, which continued for the next 25 years. In 1962, he began his private practice of medical ophthalmology until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and lectured several times at their meetings. He became interested in dyslexia during his tenure at the Wilmer Institute. This interest remained with him for the rest of his life. He lectured and worked with many schools, both state and local, and with teachers endeavoring to assist them in identifying and understanding the dyslexic child. Dr. Trent had a deep commitment to all his patients and found that it was a rich and rewarding experience, serving as both their physician and friend. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Oklahoma State Medical Society, the Oklahoma County Medical Society, the Alumni Association of the University of Virginia, Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity, the Jefferson Society, and the Wilmer Institute. He co-founded the Oklahoma City Academy of Ophthalmology with Dr. Norris Robertson, where he served for 1 year as president and 15 years as secretary treasurer. He was a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Oklahoma Medical School. He served on the staffs of St. Anthony Hospital and Baptist Memorial Hospital. He was a member of the Men's Dinner Club, the Oklahoma Heritage Foundation, and the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club. He was a me mber of All Souls Church.
