Walter C. "Sonny" Van Order, 73, Vermont, died at 4:15 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005, at Astoria Gardens, Astoria. He was born Feb. 9, 1932 in Flatwoods Neighborhood, NW of Vermont, Schuyler, Co., the son of William W alter and Christine (Chenoweth) Van Order. He married Carolyn Barkley Newcombe, June 29, 1985 in Vermont. She survives. He is also survived by one stepdaughter, Michelle (Joseph) Rossmiller, Macomb; one stepdaughter-in-law, Mary Lou Newcombe, Chicago; four step-grandchildren; and one aunt, Mildred Van Order Clauson, Peoria. He was preceded in death by one stepson, Michael Newcombe; and one half-sister, Ann Meyers. He was a bar manager for the Carroll Rankin American Legion Post #26 of Vermont. He was a 20 year Navy Veteran, retiring in 1971. He was a member of the Carroll Rankin American Legion Post #26 of Vermont, where he was a past Commander and was currently serving as Adjutant. He was a lifetime member of the Lewistown VFW Post 5001. He was a member of the American Bowling Congress for over 30 years and went to the National ABC Tournaments for over 20 years. Graveside services were held Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005 with Military rites provided by Carroll Rankin American Legion #26 of Vermont. Burial was at the Ipava Cemetery, Ipava. Memorials may be made to the Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice, 331 South Main, Virginia, Il. 62691. Shawgo Memorial Home, Astoria was in charge of arrangements.

He was buried in December 2005 at Ipava Cemetery, Ipava, Fulton Co., IL, Findagrave #17503184.

William Walter VanOrder, 73, of Vermont, died at 11:48 P.M. Friday at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Monday at Kost Memorial Home in Vermont with the Rev. Carl Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Harris Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday evening.

Mr. VanOrder was born March 22, 1903, in Schuyler County, the son of Walter and Mary Elizabeth Johnson VanOrder. He married Christine Chenoweth Vance March 28, 1931, in Palmyra, MO. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Vermont Christian Church. Surviving are his wife; one son Walter of Vermont; one step-daughter, Mrs. Annabelle Myers of Galesburg; one brother, Lester of Paso Robles, Calif; one sister, Mrs. Mildred Clawson of Hanna City; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. One brother preceded him in death.

J. Carl Wriiker on 29 MAR 1917, and that the marriage was performed by R.R. Hawkins, J.P. on 29 MAR 1917. L. J. listed a Charles Wikert as his next of kin on his JUN 1918 WW I draft registration, and was living with his sister and brother in-law George Farrar in January, 1920 when the census was taken, marital status "S". Velma was living with her mother and brother Harold in January, 1920, using her maiden name and listed with marital status "S". The 1917 marriage apparently ended very quickly. DLB 2020.

Elmer L. Van Osdale died on 31 August 1961 at Cleveland, Cuyahoga Co., OH, at age 63.
Note: Sometime after the federal census was taken in April, 1940, and before 1959 when he was listed in the Cleveland city directory, Elmer and his wife changed their surname to "Vaness", as documented no their death records.

Robert Cuyler Van Patten, 86, passed away after a lengthy illness on July 25, 2007.

The 20 year resident of Palm Desert was born August 22, 1920 to Cuyler Van Patten and Lola Humphreys Van Patten in Salem, OR.

He attended Willamette University and was a graduate of the University of Oregon. He was in the 9th Service Command, US Army from 1942-1946. He worked for Pacific Northwest in Portland, OR as District Traffic Manager until retirement.

Survivors include the widow, Margaret Dale; son William Cuyler; daughter-in-law Karen Michelle; and grandson Daniel Cuyler.

He will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt, Kansas, among many generations of his wife’s ancestors.

He was buried in 2007 at Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt, Pratt Co., KS.

CRYSTAL LAKE – Howard W. Van Peursem, 85, of Crystal Lake, died Sunday, April 24, 2011, at Centegra Hospital – McHenry.

He was born March 21, 1926, in Maurice, Iowa, to Chester and Gertrude (Boonstra) Van Peursem. On Aug. 8, 1948, he married Jo Griffits in Mitchellville, Iowa.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He received his B.A. from Central College in Pella and M.A. from both University of Wisconsin-Madison and Northern Illinois University. He has been a resident of Crystal Lake since 1961. He was an educator who loved his students and had a great passion for his work. He served as principal at Cary-Grove High School for 18 years before retiring in 1988. He was also an avid Cubs fan.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jo; his children, Mark (Suzanne) Van Peursem and Susan Van Peursem; his brother, David (Minerva) Van Peursem; and his sister, Helen (the late Art) Kalsbeck.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. The visitation will continue from noon until the funeral at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 28, at First Congregational Church, 461 Pierson St., Crystal Lake. Interment will be in Crystal Lake Memorial Park.
