Prominent Citizen Accidentally Killed

Denison, March 17.--Judge D. G. Venable, a prominent citizen of this city, was accidentally killed to-day by being thrown under the wheels of a loaded wagon. He was assisting in clearing the timber off a piece of ground just south of town, on which he designed planting fruit trees. While driving a wagon loaded with cordwood down a hill, some of the sticks were jolted off, frightening the horses, and they started to run. The Judge was pitched off in front, and both wheels passed over him, crushing his head in a frightful manner. He was picked up almost immediately, but life was extinct. Mr. Venable was a native of Kentucky; came to this city about three years ago, and some time later brought his family, consisting of his wife and a grown daughter. At the time of his death he was Deputy United States Commissioner. His wife and daughter started this afternoon for Frankfort, Ky., with the remains of the husband and father, where they will be buried.

He was buried in March 1881 at Frankfort Cemetery, Frankfort, Franklin Co., KY, Findagrave #60996678.
