Max LeRoy Bliven, 92, of Liberty, MO, passed away October 3, 2011 at his home. He was born in Conesville, Iowa, on August 2, 1919, the son of Wm. Blaine and Bertha Mae (Lord) Bliven. In 1937, he graduated from high school in Columbus Junction, Iowa, and attended college in Kansas City, MO. Max joined the Army on December 17, 1940. He served in the U.S.A. and with the 69th Infantry Division in Germany until the end of World War II, when he was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant. After serving in the Army reserves until 1962, he reached the rank of Major. He was awarded three bronze stars, one oak leaf cluster and a purple heart. Max worked for North American Savings Association, becoming Vice President before leaving in 1970. He worked at the Vista del Rio Apartments for four years until he went to work for Sentinal Federal Savings and Loan. After ten years there, he retired and sold real estate another ten years. Max was preceded in death by his parents; a twin sister, Maxine Mae; daughter, Patricia Ann; his first wife, Mary Levell Bliven; brothers, Cecil and Lee Bliven; and sister, Marguerite Smith. Survivors include his wife of the last 34 years, Evelyn Rose Bliven; son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Jan Bliven; Evelyn's children and spouses, Randy and Mary O'Dell, Sharon O'Dell and Terry Green; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 10:30 am, followed by the funeral service at 11:30 am on Saturday, October 8th, at the Park Lawn Chapel, 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, MO 64138. Burial with military honors will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Second Mile Ministries. Blaine Bliven died suddenly at his home in Fredonia at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 1971, from a heart attack. He was 78 years, 3 months and 16 days of age.

He was born January 22, 1893, in Columbus Junction, the son of John J. And Bessie Atcheson Bliven. He married Bertha Lord, March 17, 1914 at Columbus Junction, who preceded him in death May 25, 1965. On August 13, 1966 at Columbus Junction he married Mrs. Fannie Houseal.

Mr. Bliven was employed for many years at the local button factory.

He is survived by his wife, Fannie; three sons, Cecil and Max Bliven of Kansas City, Mo; Lee Bliven of Estacada, Oregon; and one daughter, Mrs. Walter (Marguerite) Smith of Gretna, La; four step-sons, Richard and Kenneth Houseal of Columbus Junction, Rolla Houseal of Burlington and John Houseal of Davenport; one step-daughter, Mrs. William (Margaret) Morgan of Columbus City; 23 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Anna) Ewing of Muscatine and Mrs. Cecil (Margaret) Schlichting of Conesville.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and sisters and a daughter, Maxine Bliven.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home with Rev. Denley Ganfield officiating. Cecil Schlichting was organist. Casket bearers were Donald Bliven, Thomas Carey, Rex Carey, Keith Carey, Justin Dee Schlichting and James E. Van Auken.

Burial was in the Columbus City Cemetery.

Surviving are grandson Michael Trudel of Laurel; nephews Rick Blizzard of Westminster, John Blizzard of Union Springs, N.Y., and Gene Palmer of Florida; and niece Mary Blizzard of Indiana.
She was predeceased by daughter Sylvia F. Trudel.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hanover, Pa.

Kowsky (1905 - 1965). Erika Laura Bloch and Orval West Lee were divorced before October 1940; they were together at Wetonka, South Dakota, as of the June 1940 federal census, but Orval was living with his mother in Shoshone County, Idaho in October, 1940 when he registered for the draft. Orval remarried to Mary Ellen Gardner on 6 JUL 1944 at Billings, Montana, then served an enlistment in the Army from 11 JUL 1955 to 17 MAY 1946. Born June 26, 1910, at Milwaukee, Wis., she later moved to Idaho.

In 1942, she married Albert Kowsky at Kellogg, Idaho, and the following year, they moved to Chelan. Her husband preceded her in death, June, 1965.

She made her home in Chelan until 1972 when she moved to Kellogg, Idaho, and later to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

Alda Lang, 100, of Paynesville, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at the Paynesville Area Hospital in Paynesville.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 10:30 a.m., at Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Paynesville and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be held in the Paynesville Cemetery.

Alda Sophia Flora Block was born on March 7, 1898, in Paynesville. She was the daughter of Henry and Amelia (Heitke) Block. Alda grew up on a family farm in Paynesville Township and attended school at District #162.

On Oct. 28, 1919, she was married to Lloyd E. Lang in St. Cloud. Following their marriage, they farmed in Paynesville Township. Lloyd died March 29, 1968. Alda remained at home for many years following his death, until the fall of 1997, when she became a resident at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Paynesville. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Alda was a lifelong resident of Paynesville, and nearly reached her 101st birthday. She experienced many changes in her lifetime. She enjoyed quilting, traveling, and gardeningÐ especially flowers. During her younger years she enjoyed fishing with her homemade bamboo fishing pole.

Alda is survived by her sons, Llewellyn (Adeline) of Paynesville, Floyd of Paynesville, Gilmore (Jacqueline) of Sorrento, Fla., Arvid of Paynesville, Roger (Donna) of Eden Valley, and Leroy (Gloria) of Des Moines, Iowa; daughters, Juanita Moser of Paynesville, and Geraldine Bogatzki of Bertha; 31 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and son-in-law, Vince Vogelpohl.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Vergeane Vogelpohl; brothers, Arthur, Rudy, and Ben; and an infant sister.

     Earl Adair Blodgett was born on 30 June 1921. He was the son of Ira Blodgett.¹ Earl Adair Blodgett married Ethel R. Snearley, daughter of Walter Triem Snearley and Fannie P.
