Rachel Ann Vandyke was born June 13, 1846 in Beaver township, Noble county, Ohio about one mile north of the home in which she resided at the time of her death, which occurred Saturday, February 22, 1902. At the age of 18 she was united in marriage with George W. Wyscarver. These two bravely fought the battles of life together for eighteen years when the devoted husband was called to rest. The latter was treasurer of Noble Co. Mrs. Wyscarver was left with seven small children of whom six survive her, viz: Mrs. J.H. Long, of near Kennonsburg; Sherman Wyscarver, of Pittsburg, Pa; Mrs. W.V. Brague, of Clarington; Mrs. G.W. Layman, of Batesville; Carlton Wyscarver, of Barnesville; and Odessa, at home. At the age of 18 she was converted and united with the Lutheran church at St. John. She lived a quiet, consistent Christian life never losing her faith in her Savior. As a wife, she was faithful and devoted, and as a mother, she was always kind and loving. Her example was worthy of emulation. She had no fear of death. Her last words to her children were "Live right." She expressed herself as being ready if it was the Lord's will. She had been a sufferer for twenty-five years, but her last illness was about two weeks. The postmortem examination showed hardening of the liver and spleen and movable kidney. All was done that could be done by willing and loving hands, but in vain, for it was the Lord's will to take her home. The funeral was conducted on Monday, February 24, at 10 o'clock, at the home, by Rev. Wykoff, and her body was laid to rest beside her late husband in the Wyscarver family cemetery. Thus a noble life was ended, another spirit returned to God who gave it. A wreath of Carnations was contributed by the family and flowers by Mrs. Clark Ball.
She was buried on 24 February 1902 at Wyscarver Cemetery, Beaver Twp., Noble Co., OH, Findagrave #197286132.
