Born October 27, 1916 in Chandlerville to Asa E. and Edith May (Ishmael) Watkins, he married Helen Louise Colson on September 21, 1940 in Davenport, Iowa. She died October 7, 2001 in Hopedale. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, one sister (Edith Miller), and five brothers (Harold, Delbert, Robert, Orville, and Raymond Watkins).
Surviving are one daughter, Lynda J. Dudley of Pekin; one son, Michael W. (Danielle) Watkins of Pekin; twelve grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Gary L. (Martha) Watkins of Manito and Wilbert (Catherine) Watkins of Lansing.
Virgil worked for Hart-Carter Company in Peoria from 1937 to 1951 as a tool and die maker. He then worked at Mount Hawley Manufacturing in Peoria from 1951 to 1965 as plant manager. He last worked for International Harvester in Canton from 1966 until retiring in 1979 from planning and research.
A mason since 1946, he was a member of Ipava Lodge #213 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons.
Virgil enjoyed fishing and hunting.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2007 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Gary L. Ford will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 Friday at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where Masonic rites will be held at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

Born Sept. 15, 1921, at Pratt, Kan., she moved with her husband, Walter B. Laughlin, to the Pacific Northwest in the early 1950s, settling in Centralia.
A homemaker, she enjoyed the visits made to her home by her family and spending time with her friends. Her survivors said she loved the Pacific Northwest.
Her husband died in 1990.
