Maria Magdalena Wendel
F, b. 16 December 1773, d. 10 March 1853
Maria Magdalena Wendel was born on 16 December 1773 at Dunmore (now Shenandoah) Co., VA; Birth and christening dates from Wayland's History of Shenandoah County, Appendix p.739. It says the parents were "John Wendell and Mary". Do not know whether his wife's full name was "Magdalena" or "Maria Magdalena" - suspect the latter, which would be consistent with a daughter named "Mary". Cannot identify another John Wendel in the area who would have been a father at this date.
This date is also a near perfect match to the headstone inscription of Mary M. Rhoades, who died 10 MAR 1853, which reads "aged 79y 2m 21d". (DLB 2008.)
She was the daughter of John Wendel and Maria Magdalena Dellinger. Maria Magdalena Wendel was baptized on 29 January 1774 at Strasburg, Dunmore (now Shenandoah) Co., VA. Note: Frederic Z. Saunders has contributed significantly to the Philipp Wendel research, and provided the following background:
The information on Philip WENDEL is from the German researcher Hermann Scholl, who was hired in 1981 by Mrs. Cleta SMITH of Silver Spring, MD to research the parish records for WENDEL. A copy of his report to her was placed with the parish register, as it was later microfilmed along with the parish register, for LDS records. Philip Wendel's name and information is apparently taken from tax records. Philip Wendel was born circa 1620 at Framersheim, Palatinate. He married Anna (?) in 1644. Philip Wendel died after 1670 at Framersheim, Palatinate.
