Charles Henry Wendell--- Funeral services were held Thursday for Charles Henry Wendell, 69, a former Portsmouth resident, who died at his home following a heart attack. Rev. O.H. Carter conducted the services. Mr. Wendell lived at Portsmouth from 1912 to 1934, when he moved to Huntington. His wife preceded him in death in 1934. Surviving are three sons, J. Bertrand of Marion, Ark., Richard K. of Athens, Robert A., stationed on Okinawa, and a daughter, Marjorie of Columbus. He leaves two brothers, Joe Wendell of Greentown, O., and John of Waynesburg; a sister Nettie Lyons of Cambridge, O., five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Interment was made in Huntington's Memorial Park cemetery.

NORTH CANTON -- Clovis D. "Butch" Wendell, 60, of 300 Cole Ave. SW, died Tuesday at home after a long illness.

A life resident of North Canton, he was retired from the maintenance department of the Hoover Co.

He was a member of the Louisville Baptist Temple.

He leaves son Donald C. of Frostproof, Fla; daughter Beverly J. Wendell of Bartow, Fla; brother Earl S. Wendell of New Carlisle, O; sisters Mrs. Freeda Braucher of Massillon, Mrs. Helen Hurd of Bakersfield, Cal., Mrs. Doratha Hamilton and Mrs. Sarah Rhoads of East Canton, Mrs. Esabel Elliott of Willoughby, and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Lewis - Karlo funeral home where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Canton.

Page 550: Cora Wendell was taken from the orphans' home, along with seven other children, and raised by Mr. and Mrs. David Linn, until she was of age and married Arthur Wilkins of Whiting, Indiana.

David Linn was born 3 SEP 1841, fifth of nine children of Samuel and Sarah Ann (Stout) Linn. Samuel Linn left his father's home in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, in 1807 at the age of 16 and built a home in Guernsey County.

At the 1880 Federal Census, Cora and all her siblings were in the home of her parents -- apparently the removal was subsequent to that date. Cora Isadore Wendell was born on 18 August 1874 at Guernsey Co., OH, other Wendell family information had her birth year as 1876, but both the 1880 and 1900 censuses are consistent with 1874, and her early separation from the family probably explains the discrepancy.¹ She was the daughter of William James Wendell and Susannah A. Jeffery. Cora Isadore Wendell married Arthur Thomas Wilkins, son of James B. Wilkin and Margaret C. Moore, in 1894 at Wood Co., WV, four children born, two living as of the 1910 census.² Cora Isadore Wendell lived on 3 May 1910 at 634 New York Avenue, Whiting, Lake Co., IN.² She lived on 17 January 1920 at 528 Vermont Street, Blue Island, Cook Co., IL.³ She died on 5 February 1935 at Blue Island, Cook Co., IL, at age 60.      Craig Wendell was the son of Haines E. J. Wendell and Zella M. Britt. Craig Wendell died before 2003.
