She was born Feb. 15, 1930, in Springfield, the daughter of James and Cora Plush Wendell. She married Darrell Denton on Nov. 24, 1964. Her parents; half brother, Bert Hedrick; and two brothers, Robert and Donald Wendell, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Denton worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Co. in the accounting department. She then worked at St. Nicholas Hotel in the Glade Cafe as a waitress and then at Sangamo Electric Co. in the payroll department.
She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1948. She was a member of St. Agnes Church, the choir and the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed traveling, cooking and spoiling her grandkids.
Surviving are her husband, Darrell Denton of Springfield; four sons, James J. Bennett of Rimrock, Ariz., Jeffery A. Bennett of Springfield, Michael K. (Tina) Bennett of Alton and Mark W. (Leigh Ann) Bennett of Springfield; a granddaughter; six grandsons; a great-granddaughter; two great-grandsons; two sisters, Dorothy Engel of LaHabra, Calif., and Wanda (John) Weber of Peoria; brother, Richard (Jean) Wendell of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 11, 2007, at Staab Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 5 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2007, at St. Agnes Church, with the Rev. Robert Jallas officiating. Burial will be in Rochester Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Agnes Church Choir.

George W. Wendell was born in August 1859 at Greene Co., PA.1,2 He was the son of Cyrus W. Wendell and Margaret Spears.1 George W. Wendell married Mary Virginia Murdy, daughter of Joseph Murdy and Caroline Reaper, circa 1879.3 George W. Wendell lived in 1910 at Richhill Twp., Greene Co., PA, Census p.61A. He died on 10 March 1930 at Waynesburg, Greene Co., PA, at age 70 Obituary (findagrave.com):
George W. Wendell, aged 70 years, of Richhill township, died Monday, March 10, in the Waynesburg hospital, following a three hours' illness from heart trouble. Mr. Wendell was here attending court and was taken ill on the street and removed to the hospital. Mr. Wendell was a son of Silas and Margaret Wendell and was born August 30, 1859, in Aleppo township. He had spent his entire life in western Greene county, where he was well known. He was serving as constable of Richhill township. His wife, Mrs. Jennie Murdy Wendell, died three years ago. Four children survive: Mrs Laura Cooper, of Wind Ridge; James Wendell, of Apollo; Ancel Wendell, of Butler, Pa; and W. E. Wendell, of Cameron, W. Va. Two sisters also survive, Mrs. Nancy Tharp, of Williamsfield, Ohio, and Mrs. Maria Armstrong, of Washington, Pa.

Born at Cambridge, a daughter of the late J.E. and Lillie Drubbs (sic) Wendell, she attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Canton. She was married in 1917 to Willard Landis, who survives.
Others surviving are 6 sons, Neilan of Newcomerstown, Donald and Ernest of West Lafayette, Paul of North Canton, Wendell of Wilmot and Loren of Pinesville (sic), Oreg; 2 daughters, Mrs. Mildred Register of Canton and Mrs. Dorothy Izey of Phoenix, Ariz; 2 brothers, Raymond of Canton and Ralph of Carrollton; a sister, Mrs. Roland Hein of Carrollton; 31 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Two sons and a daughter preceded her in death.
Services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. in Dawson Funeral Home with Rev. Edsel Hartman officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery at Newcomerstown. Friends may call tonight from 7 to 9 and Thursday from 4 to 6 and 7 to 9.
