Nannie Quesenberry

DRAPER, Va. -- Nannie Alverta Windle Quesenberry, 89, of Draper died Thursday night, August 7, 2003, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

She was born in Pulaski County on December 31, 1913, and was the daughter of the late William and Bessie Windle. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Smith Quesenberry, Sr., and by two grandsons, Wayne and Mike Akers and by a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Hughes.

She was a member of the Draper's Valley Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are: five Daughters & Sons-in-Law, Betty & Charlie Akers, Pulaski; Ruby & Earl Hughes, Johnson City, TN; Janet & James Copenhaver, Collinsville; Gale & Perry Kipps, Christiansburg; Two Sons & Daughters-in-Law, Buddy & Patty Quesenberry, Draper; Jimmy & Bonnie Quesenberry, Draper; One Sister, Ruby Tickle, Draper; 12 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren, 3 Great Great Grandchildren.

Visiting will be Saturday evening, August 9, from Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held Saturday night at 8:00 PM following the visitation. A graveside service will be held Sunday at 2:00 PM from the Draper's Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery, Wythe County.

Nicholas Hetrick Windle and his wife Catherine Hillyard were married in Martinsburg , VA. His father John Windle was born in Germany. They had 12 children, They came to Monroe County, Ohio with four children: Grafton W., Mary E. Snyder, Anna, wife of William Smith now deceased and Dr. Jacob H. They came from Winchester through Wheeling, to Carlyle, in Monroe county. They remained there until June 5, 1847, when they landed in Portsmouth. They started to go to Illinois, but stopped off at Portsmouth, where they found Thomas Davis, a former neighbor. Mr. Davis was then carrying on a glove factory in Portsmouth and was short of hands. Mrs. Windle was an expert glove maker, and Mr. Davis induced her to stay, to teach his hands how to make gloves, and so the family remained in Portsmouth and the vicinity from 1847-1850, and then moved to Adams County, Bacon Flats. They remained there one year and then moved to Munns Run. Nicholas Hetrick Windle was born on 17 March 1807 at Frederick Co., VA. He was the son of John Windle and Eve Anderson. Nicholas Hetrick Windle married Catherine Hillyard circa 1825 at Martinsburg, Berkeley Co., VA (now WV), Total of 12 children, per census info. Nicholas Hetrick Windle lived in August 1860 at Springville, Greenup Co., KY, census page 801. He died on 27 January 1881 at Scioto Co., OH, at age 73. He was buried in January 1881 at Newman Cemetery, Adams Co., OH.
