OBITUARY: Kokomo, Indiana Tribune, March 8, 2008:

Margaret Imogene Winslow, 87, Kokomo, passed away 11:32 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2008, at her home. She was born Oct. 12, 1920, in Washington County to Wiley Porter and Ruth (Anderson) Winslow and was graduated from Salem High School in 1936.
In 1982 she retired after 44 years in the education field as a teacher and administrator. In 1938 she began her career as a primary teacher in Scott County. Eight years later she became a business and physical education teacher at Scottsburg High School. In 1956 she came to Kokomo High School as a physical education teacher and two years later she became a guidance counselor. In 1966 she became Dean of Girls from which she retired in 1982.
She was graduated from Central Normal College, Danville, in 1938 and in 1941 she received her bachelor’s degree from Central Normal. In 1953 she received her masters in physical education from Indiana University. She did additional graduate study at Ball State and Indiana universities in the field of guidance and counseling.
She was a member of First Congregational Church, having served on several boards and having worked as a Nearly New caller for several years. Other local memberships include Phi Beta Psi, YWCA, Daughters of the American Revolution, Cheer Guild and Delta Kappa Gamma. Her professional memberships include Howard County Retired Teachers in which she held many offices, state and national retired teachers and life membership in the National Education Association. While a physical education teacher she was very active in the Girls Athletic Association, the forerunner of the present girls sports program. She served as its editor, secretary, and president. It was during her presidency that G.A.A. finally succeeded in gaining audience with Mr. L.V. Phillips, then commissioner of the IHSAA, seeking recognition of girls as a part of high school athletics and opportunities for girls to participate in school-against-school activities. As a result, some years later a director of girls athletics was added to the IHSAA and the current girls sports program evolved. She had continued to be an ardent supporter of both girls’ and boys’ athletics and all sports activities. She was also active in the Indiana University Alumni School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation, having served as the organization’s secretary and later as its president.

Obituary -- (Findagrave.com):

Hanging from one of the rafters leading to the hay mow in the barn on his farm at Maugansville, the lifeless but still warm body of Jacob Winters [sic], over 70 years of age, was found by his wife, Mrs. Mary Winters, shortly after noon today.

Mrs. Winter was hunting her husband to call him to lunch when she came upon his body in the barn. As had always been his habit, he left the house at 11 o'clock to attend to his feeding, and was not seen again alive. Mrs. Winter was prostrated with grief and some neighbors rendered her medical attention.

Sheriff Duffey and State's Attorney Wolfinger were notified at one and left for the scene of the suicide. They will make an investigation. The body was delivered into the hands of an undertaker for burial.

Mr. Winter had been in ill health for the past year. Of late, however, he seemed to be in good spirits, according to friends, and his death came as a great shock to them. He never intimated that he contemplated ending his life.

Besides his widow he is survived by a daughter, Miss Mary Winter, of Maugansville and several brothers, who are believed to live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The family has lived on the farm at Maugansville for the past 30 years.
