Man To Go On Trial For Slaying Which Took Place In 1926

JEFFERSON, O., April 7 (UP) -- Robert S. Wyman, 51, of Conneaut, will go on trial here April 28 for a murder he admitted he committed 20 years ago.

Wyman is charged with first degree murder in the bludgeoning to death of Mrs. Eva Hannold in the backyard of her parents' Conneaut home in December of 1926. Arrested the following day, Wyman admitted the killing and shortly after he was committed to the Lima state hospital for the criminal insane.

Recently declared sane, Wyman was return (sic) to Ashtabula-co for trial, probably before a three-judge panel.

Freed Of 20-Year-Old Murder Charge

JEFFERSON, O., April 30. (INS) -- Robert S. Wyman, 52, formerly of Conneaut, was free today of a 20-year-old murder charge in connection with the hammer-slaying of Mrs. Eva Hannold, then 51.

Three judges, in the shortest trial in Ashtabula county history, adjudged Wyman innocent by reason of insanity in the De. 6, 1925 murder, which took place in a woodshed behind the woman's Conneaut home.

The accused man, recently found restored to reason after 20 years of treatment at the Lima State hospital for the insane, will be re-examined and released from custody if his present sanity is reaffirmed.

OHIOAN FREE AFTER 20 YEARS IN CUSTODY

Conneaut, O., Sept. 25 (INS) -- Robert Wyman, 52, returned to his Conneaut home a free man today after more than 20 years in custody.

In 1926, Wyman was committed to the Lima State hospital for the insane for the hammer slaying of Mrs. Eva Hannold, 42, of Conneaut.

Released last May as "cured", Wyman was retried and returned to Lima under an Ohio law which presumes insanity continues in a defendant who has been acquitted on the sole ground he was insane when the crime was committed.

The law also provided for a sanity hearing Wyman underwent before a three judge court in Allen county, (t)he panel found him "restored to reason" and ordered his release.

He died after September 1947 at Ashtabula Co. (probably), OH.

     Bonnie Shirlene Wymer was also known as Bonnie S. Redkey Bonnie's marriage record shows her maiden name as Redkey, but her obituary says her father was Harold Wymer. She was born on 1 September 1949 at Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., OH. She died on 17 May 2000 at age 50.
