ROBERT CAMILLE WYNNE
NEWPORT NEWS -- Robert Camille Wynne, 79, of Las Cruces, N.M., died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006.

He was born in Newport News, Warwick Co., Va., on Aug. 15, 1926, to Georgette Marie Gentis Wynne and Robert Carey (sic) Wynne.

A graduate of Hampton High School, he attended North Carolina State University and was appointed to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. As a veteran of WWII, he was behind enemy lines at the cessation of hostilities, having served with honors. He had a long and productive career as a mechanical engineer. He also was an avid collector and restorer of vintage Chrysler Imperials, having won numerous awards in car shows throughout the U.S., and was a member of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Kruski Wynne; son, Robert Larry Wynne of San Francisco; son, George Allan Wynne, and daughter-in-law, Ellen Wynne, of St. Louis; daughter, Audrey Marie Wynne, and son-in-law, Robert Zerbonia, of Durham, N.C; and four grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, at Hampton Veterans Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements are under the care of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2441 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, Va.
