     Ralph Vernon Wyscarver was born on 7 January 1917 at Quaker City, Guernsey Co., OH.¹ He was the son of George Lewis Wyscarver and Bertha M. Stephens.¹ Ralph Vernon Wyscarver married Jean Staats, daughter of Delbert Weedon Staats and Caroline Elizabeth Tullius, on 25 December 1941 at Guernsey Co., OH. Ralph Vernon Wyscarver lived on 2 March 1950 at 1310 Blaine Avenue, Cambridge, Guernsey Co., OH, Pennsylvania Veteran Compensation Application Files, WW II. He died on 16 September 1991 at age 74.

U.S. Veteran Robert Leo Wyscarver, 92, of Quaker City, passed away Monday (August 27, 2012) at Emerald Pointe Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Barnesville.

He was born June 12, 1920 in Beaver Township/Noble County, son of the late William and Myrtle (Buyas) Wyscarver.

He was a 1938 graduate of Batesville High School.

Mr. Wyscarver was a US Navy veteran, having served during WWII.

He was employed with V.O. Menuez of Millersburg and later retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation.

He was a life-long farmer and a fifty-plus year member of Grange.

In his younger years, he enjoyed baseball, golf, bowling, fast pitch softball, and horseshoes.

On February 2, 1939 he married Grace Marie Long, who passed away May 30, 2008.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Pearl House; and a daughter-in-law, Connie Wyscarver.

He leaves a daughter, Joyce (& David) Wehr of Beallsville; three sons, Ronald Wyscarver of Barnesville, Gerry (& Dorothy) Wyscarver of Westerville, and Richard (& Sheryl) Wyscarver of Quaker City; three sisters, Marie Stoneburner of Salesville, Dorothy McKinistry of Huntington Beach CA, and Lucille (& Emerson) Christman of Cambridge; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; a special niece, Shelly Lucas; and a special friend, Sally Dingus.

Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, and also on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Funeral services will be held Thursday (August 30, 2012) at 11 a.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, with Pastor Mark Slay officiating.

Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.

Thomas Jefferson Wyscarver married Laura M. Blough circa 1887.³ Thomas Jefferson Wyscarver lived in 1889 at Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., OH, editor of Harness World per his father's obituary. He lived on 18 June 1900 at Sharonville, Hamilton Co., OH, publisher.³

WILLIAM "WYSIE" WYSCARVER

Although it has not been the writers privilege to enjoy more that what might be termed a casual acquaintance with the late Wm. Wyscarver, it is our good fortune to have been allowed the opportunity of looking over his books. There is no better acquaintance to be had with a man than to possess a familiarity with what he reads, and in this case we found a lifetime-ninety-three years, spent in a quest for knowledge. Religion was the theme of this unusual and more than ordinary useful life. His curiosity was greater than that of Ingersoll, and his quest more exacting. Born in a log house in Beaver township, Noble County, Ohio in 1841, then moving to Edinburg, Ill., where he attended school and entered business. A fire left him poverty stricken. He then moved to Oakley, homesteaded here in 1885, and was one of the first merchants of the town.

Word has been received here of the death of Sherman Wyscarver, of Braddock, who passed away at the home Wednesday morning. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Wyscarver and was born and reared in the vicinity of Batesville. He was 60 years of age and leaves his wife and one daughter, Mrs. William Young, of Pittsburgh.

The following sisters and brothers also survive: Mrs. Owen Day, of Illinois; Mrs. George Layman, of near Batesville, and Mrs. John Long, of near Kennonsburg, and one brother, Carleton, of Zanesville.

The deceased had been ill since the first of the year and his death was not unexpected. The body will be brought to Quaker city Friday and will be taken direct to the Wyscarver burial ground near Batesville, where interment will be made.

     Lena A. Yack was born on 29 May 1901 at Acme, Grand Traverse Co., MI. She married Henry John Stein Jr. on 1 January 1923 at Muskegon, Muskegon Co., MI. Lena A. Yack and Henry John Stein Jr. were divorced after 19 April 1940. Lena A. Yack died on 1 June 1989 at Tecumseh, Lenawee Co., MI, at age 88. Katherine Breckinridge Yager died on 19 November 1985 at age 79.

     Alfred C. Yakle was born on 21 November 1906. He was the son of Jacob Yakle and Hattie (?) Alfred C. Yakle married Bernice Barbara Cunningham, daughter of William Edward Cunningham and Annie Isabel Harkness, on 22 April 1936, no children to this marriage. Alfred C.      Shizu Yamashita was born on 1 April 1886 at Yasuhira, Kumamoto, Japan. She married Torahei "Tom" Iseri on 24 October 1907 at Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Shizu Yamashita died on 1 January 1978 at Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., CA, at age 91.

     Dorothy Yancey was born on 13 June 1916 at Harrisonburg, Harrisonburg City, VA. She was the daughter of John Gibbons Yancey Jr. and Elizabeth Lucile Rosenberger. Dorothy Yancey married John Roller Grattan, son of George Gilmer Grattan Jr. and Frances Lewis Roller, before 8 April 1940. Dorothy Yancey Garber, 94, of Harrisonburg, passed away April 2, 2011, at Emeritus of Harrisonburg.

Mrs. Garber was born June 13, 1916, in Harrisonburg, and was the daughter of the late John Gibbons and Elizabeth Rosenberger Yancey.

She was a graduate of Strayer College and was an executive secretary in Washington, D.C., before retiring. She was one of the first women to fly solo at Hartmans Field in Harrisonburg.

Mrs. Garber is survived by sons, John Y. Grattan of Minnesota and Robert M. Grattan of Harrisonburg; daughters, Lynn G. Lambert, Dorothy "Lee" Miller and Audrey Atkins, all of Harrisonburg; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 5, 2011, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.

At her request, her body was donated to the State Anatomical Program for research.

PONTOTOC - Leola "Lee" Yancey Dowdy, 72, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was a Christian, a retired beautician and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion. She also was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW, where she held several offices at the local, district and state level, and was awarded several accommodations and awards.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Yancey and Overa Wilbanks Yancey; her stepmothers, Wardie Yancey and Gertrude Yancey; the fathers of her children, Donald Ray Bigham and Wayne "Hoppy" Hopkins; her sister, Dolly Murphy; and her brother, Jim Yancey.
