Gwendolyn Maxine Zahn married Charles Wahlfred Young on 3 July 1943 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Co., OK; after their divorce, Gwendolyn remarried to Harold E. Weir (1922 - 1996) and Charles remarried to Evelyn Louise McLean (1923 - 1995). Charles and Evelyn had a son, C. W. Young, Jr., and lost an infant daughter in 1963.

Gwendolyn Maxine Zahn and Charles Wahlfred Young were divorced. Gwendolyn Maxine Zahn lived in 1996 at Troutdale, Multnomah Co., OR. She died on 29 August 2011 at age 87. She was buried in 2011 at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Multnomah Co., OR, Findagrave #190098509.

Zahn Services Held Monday

Funeral services for Louis Zahn, pioneer businessman of northwestern Oklahoma, were at 2 p.m. Monday in the Sharon Methodist church with Rev. J. C. Watson, pastor of the church officiating. Burial was in the Fargo cemetery with final Masonic rites conducted by Charity Lodge No. 254, AF&AM.

Mr. Zahn died early Saturday morning at his home in Sharon following a heart attack. He was born Aug. 1, 1868 in Morgan county, Ill. He came to Oklahoma in 1895 and settled in Kay county. In 1903 he moved to Fargo and established the Fargo Grain and Supply company. He operated the business until 1931 when he sold out and moved to Sharon where he operated the Zahn Grain company until his death.

In 1889 he was united in marriage to Minnie Starr who preceded him in death. On Dec. 25, 1931 he was united in marriage to Carrie E. Conway of Sharon, Okla. He was a member of the Methodist church.

He was a charter member of Charity Lodge No. 252, AF&AM at Fargo and recently received his 50 year membership pin.

Survivors include his wife Carrie of the home in Sharon, one daughter Valma Zahn, Gage; one son, Vernal, Fargo; also one step-daughter Levira C. Canaday, Los Angeles, and two step sons, Theo. J. Conway, Eagle Point, Ore., and Harold C. Conway, Compton, Calif; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were by the Byron Mason Funeral Home.

He was buried in December 1953 at Fargo Cemetery, Fargo, Ellis Co., OK, Findagrave #78802443.

Vernal L. Zahn

Vernal L. Zahn, 78, a former local resident and father of Mrs. A. Harry Roberts of Shreveport, died Friday in Woodward, Okla., following a long illness.

Mrs. Roberts is the wife of former FBI agent A. Harry Roberts, now president of Southern Research Co.

A former longtime rancher in Woodward, Mr. Zahn made his home here for several years with Mrs. Roberts.

Mr. Zahn, member of a pioneer Oklahoma family, was born in Kahoka, Mo., in 1893 and moved with his family the the Newkirk community in the Oklahoma territory in 1895. The family established the present Zahn ranch in Woodward in 1905.

In addition to farming and ranching, Mr. Zahn served on various federal and state boards and commissions pertaining to agricultural activities.

For many years he and his father owned and operated Zahn and Son Grain and Lumber Co. Until his illness he had been an active member of Woodward Methodist Church, serving as deacon and later as lay minister. He was a Mason and Pat Worshipful Master of Charity Lodge 254. He was president of Blue Ridge Telephone Co. for many years, was a past president of his Chamber of Commerce and of Woodward Memorial Park. He was a member of the American Legion.

In addition to his daughter here, Mr. Zahn is survived by another daughter, Mrs. Harold Weir, Portland, Ore; five grandchildren, Mrs. Mary Beth Roberts Ellis of Metairie, La., Mrs. Nancy Anna Roberts Swann, Shreveport, Mrs. James Benson, Alva, Okla., Captain Richard Young and Suzahn Weir, and two great grandsons and a granddaughter.

Interment will be at Fargo Memorial Park, Monday at 2 p.m. under the direction of Stetcher Funeral Home of Woodward, Okla.

He was buried in May 1971 at Fargo Cemetery, Fargo, Ellis Co., OK, Findagrave #182466675.

Marybell B. Mernik -- Age 80, of Spanish Fort, AL, passed away at home on May 8, 2003. Marybell was born in Minneapolis, MN on September 15, 1922 to Hugo W. and Charlotte O. Zander. She was married to Walter J. Mernik for 56 years before he preceded her in death on August 14, 1997. Mom and Dad moved to Gulf Shores, AL when they purchased Sea Horse Resort. She gave the Pink Pony Pub its name in 1968. Mom was a true sports enthusiast with Alabama at the top of her list. She was the All-American Mom-Room Mother, Girl Scout Leader, Team Supporter, PTA Member, Everybody's Mom-whose family and children always came first. We will all miss her dearly.

She is survived by four children and spouses, Bill and Madeleine Mernik; Tammy and Wayne Chisenhall; Bruce and Annette Mernik; and Debby and Dave Dalton; ten grandchildren, Shelly, Bill, Mark, JB, Gar, Tammy, Marcy, Kerry, Sherry, and DJ; and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Marybell Mernik are Monday, May 12, 2003 at 2pm from Bayview Funeral Home in Daphne, AL with burial in Memory Gardens of Fairhope. Mrs. Mernik will lie in state from 1pm until 2pm before service. In lieu of flowers, as a true animal lover, Mom would have liked contributions to be made to the Baldwin County Humane Society. Arrangements by BAYVIEW FUNERAL HOME, Daphne, Alabama.
