Gordon B. Broadwell was born on the family farm near Sanborn, ND, the son of Burt and Caroline (Bommer) Broadwell. He attended rural school near Sanborn and then Valley City Public School. Gordon was a 1951 graduate of Sanborn High School. Following his schooling, he joined the United States Navy and served four years. When he returned, Gordon began his farming career. In 1958, he married Dorothy Brandt in Valley City. They made their home south west of Sanborn. In 1967, they moved to their current home near Kathryn, ND. Gordon was a past member of the Legion in Sanborn and the Eagles in Valley City. He was an all around outdoorsman. Fall was his favorite time of the year. He was an avid hunter and even learned to be a pretty good fisherman. Gordon, being quite a character himself, liked cartoons, especially Donald Duck. He was a history buff and enjoyed reading Louis Lamoure books. Gordon enjoyed a good game of pool. He played with his father and father-in-law and taught his boys the game. Above all, he loved his family. Playing with his grandchildren was one of his greatest joys. Gordon is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons, Craig of Valley City, Clay currently serving with the ND National Guard in Kosovo and Cole (Cindy) of Carrington, ND; daughters, Wendy (Chuck) Ranum of Harvey, ND and Lynette (Monte) Schaff of Bismarck; grandchildren, Chris, Alicia, and Cody Ranum, Hunter Broadwell, Kylie, Amy and Everett Schaff, Samantha and Dylan Broadwell, and Zachary, Joseph, Anthony and Jayden Broadwell; a brother, Keith (Mary) of West Fargo; sisters, LaVetta (Neil) Whitney of Boone, CO, Lila Mahan of Puyallup, WA, and Vivian Pabst of Sanborn, ND. He was preceded in death by his son, Cory; parents; and sister, Eunice Marker.

She retired in 1984 from Fulton State Hospital where she had worked for 15 years.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 16 at the Schlanker Funeral Home with Rev. Harvey Quenette officiating. Burial was in the New Florence Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Glen Wehmeyer, John Simpson, Frankie Zumwalt, Mike Palmer, Jr., Marvin Deeker and Karl Mertz.
The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the Kidney Foundation.
Mrs. Newcom was born in Montgomery City on July 13, 1919, a daughter of Arnold and Mae Powell Brokensick. She was married in 1951 to Marvin Sylvester Newcom, who died December 13, 1972.
She is survived by a son, Marlin [probably Marvin] Newcom of Kingdom City; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Robert (Charlene) Hoffman of Palmdale, California and Mrs. Tony (Jean) Albarico of Little Rock, California; three grandchildren, four step grandchildren and several step great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Newcom was a member of the Montgomery City Christian Church.
