Clayton A. Butcher of Lucile and Grace Ann Morrow of Boles were married last Friday morning at the parsonage of the Federated church, the Rev. Nelson C. Pierce reading the ceremony. They were attended by Mrs. Ike Rice, sister of the groom, and Mary Lou Benedict.


Mr. Butcher is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Butcher and at the present is associated with his father in stock raising and mining. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Morrow, prominent stock growers of the Boles section, and is a graduate of the Lewiston High School.

Clayton A. (Butch) Butcher, a cattle buyer for the Twin City Sales Yard and Lewiston Livestock Market, died of a heart attack Tuesday at his home in Lewiston. He was 80.
He was born Aug. 2, 1913, at Cow Creek, near Lucile, Idaho, to Eben and Anna Turnbull Butcher.
He was raised and had his early schooling at Lucile. The family later moved to Grangeville, where he graduated from high school.
He then began working for the U.S. Forest Service as a packer, and in 1936 he started saddle bronc riding and bulldogging at the Lewiston Roundup, an event he participated in for several years. He was named grand marshal of the Roundup Parade in 1979.
He was a former member of the Rodeo Cowboys of America, and was all-around champion at Grangeville Border Days in 1939 and 1940.
He married Grace Morrow in 1937 at Riggins, and the couple moved to Cottonwood, where he ran the Livestock Sales Yard for a number of years until moving to Parma, Idaho, in 1951. They later divorced.
He farmed at Parma until 1960, and then moved to Gallatin Gateway, Mont., where he ranched cattle.
He married Claudina Holden, and she died some time later.
In 1964 he moved to Visalia, Calif., where he worked in a feed lot until moving to Lewiston in 1965.
He married Madeline Reib Porter in 1973. She died in 1988.
He worked as a cattle buyer at the Twin City Sales Yard and Lewiston Livestock until the time of his death.
Survivors include two sons, Clinton Butcher of Oxnard, Calif., and Dick Butcher of Boise; three sisters, Florence Downen of Lewiston, Stella Bosworth of Buhl, Idaho, and Pauline Hoover of Twin Falls; and three grandchildren.
A son, Darrell, and two sisters died previously.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Malcom's Brower-Wann Memorial Chapel in Lewiston, with his son, Dick Butcher, giving the eulogy. Burial will follow at Normal Hill Cemetery in Lewiston.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Lewis-Clark Animal Shelter, 1820 Shelter Road, Lewiston, Idaho, 83501.

Cable Kills Young Idaho Boater
NYSSA, Ore. - Seventeen-year-old Darrell Butcher died of a broken neck at dusk Monday when struck by a guy wire while he was steering a motorboat, Oregon State Police said Tuesday.
Officers said the accident occurred while Butcher's boat was towing a water skier, John Smith, who was not injured. A passenger in the boat, Bruce Dellaven, 15, of Nyssa, was hospitalized with chest injuries.
The half-inch cable was securing one of several barges being used in the construction of a bridge across the Snake River from Nyssa to the Idaho shore, officers said.
Butcher was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Butcher of Parma, Idaho.

Youth's Death Leads To Suit
BOISE (UP) - A $51,052 damage suit was on file in U.S. District Court here today against Hansen and Parr Construction Co., Spokane, in connection with the boating death of Darrell Clayton Butcher, 17, Apple Valley.
The youth's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton A. Butcher, alleged in their complaint that the firm was negligent in its failure to provide marking devises for a bridge construction cable.
Young Butcher was killed Aug. 12 when he drove his motorboat under the cable and was struck on the head by it on the Snake River near Nyssa, Ore.

Mrs. C. F. Schmoe died yesterday. Death occurred at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis after an operation. Was born in Illinois.
Mrs. Della Dillingham Schmoe, wife of C. F. Schmoe, 1005 Harrison Ave., died Thursday evening at 4:30 o'clock, filling an operation for a bowel problem. Mrs. Schmoe suffered a similar attack about twenty years ago. During January 1925 she received a fall in Chicago and remained in poor health for several months following the accident. The deceased was born in Industry County, Illinois, April 1, 1873, her age being fifty-three years, eleven months and seventeen days. She was a member of the Methodist Church of Macomb, Illinois. Mrs. Schmoe was a splendid neighbor and will be missed by a host of friends. She was married to Charles F. Schmoe December 1, 1912 at Detroit, Michigan. Besides the husband, she is survived by a daughter, Miss Beulah Dillingham at home, the step-father, Olaf Sederberg, Detroit, Mich., brother E. W. Butcher, Lucille, Idaho, three sisters, Mrs. L. A. Young, Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Dean Osborn of Portsmouth, Illinois, Mrs. Mildred Schofield of Miami, Florida, and a niece Miss Thelma Schofield of ----VA. Announcement of the funeral will be made later.

In the spring of 1976, Dick purchased Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapels which he owned and managed for nearly 13 years. Dick had a passion for community service and helping others, serving as Mayor of Payette for three terms. In addition, he served on many boards, including a term as President of the Association of Idaho Cities and President of Idaho Funeral Service Association. Dick eventually moved to Los Angeles where he spent the last 10 years working for Los Angeles Funeral Service and later Snyder's Care Center. Dick is survived by his three children Melissa (David) Baker of Kennewick, WA, Anna (David) Augusto of Boise, and Ben Butcher of Boise; two granddaughters, Amelia and Chelsie Baker; and former wife, Mardi (Tensen) Skinner of Boise. EBEN W. BUTCHER is an industrious and skillful miner living two miles north of Lucile, and is occupied in delving for the hidden treasures. He was born in Macomb, Illinois, on October 1, 1869, being the son of James (sic) M. and Lydia (Munson) Butcher. The father was born in Boone County, Indiana, in 1850. He came west to Moscow in 1886, and died the following year. The mother of our subject ...... Monmouth, that state. The family came to Carroll County, Missouri, when our subject was eight years old, and in that place he received his education and labored on the farm with his father until manhood. Then, in 1886, they came to Moscow. In that city he learned the trade of the butcher and operated there and at Oakesdale, Washington. When twenty he went to California and mined for six years in the placers. Then he came to Idaho in 1897, going first to Elk City where he located some claims. Two years later he came to the Bluejacket, on the Snake, and Salmon Rivers, and in December, 1890, he came to his present place. He bought here the Zebra and the Dandy, both good placer mines. Since then he has been working these mines with good success. Mr. Butcher has four sisters, Delia, Lela, Ola and Minnie. Mr. Butcher is a good Democrat.

Eben William Butcher was born on 1 October 1869 at Macomb, McDonough Co., IL.¹ He was the son of Joseph Milton Butcher and Lydia Ann Munson. Eben William Butcher married Anna Lydia Turnbull, daughter of Peter Turnbull and Margaret Katherine Deasy, on 30 April 1906 at Grangerville, Idaho Co., ID. Eben William Butcher and Anna Lydia Turnbull were separated before April 1930; In daughter Stella's obituary, it says that Stella and her siblings were raised by their father. The family was still together in 1920 when the eldest child would have been 13 years old and the youngest, would have been 4 years old. In 1930 Eben listed his marital status as divorced. In 1940, Anna was still listed as married and still using the "Butcher" surname. Since neither Eben nor Anna ever remarried, they are assumed to have been separated, not divorced. Eben William Butcher lived on 22 April 1930 at Lucile Precinct, Idaho Co., ID.² He lived on 12 April 1940 at Lucile Precinct, Idaho Co., ID, listed marital status as "WD", but Anna Butcher was living at Lewiston and used her married surname.³ He died on 25 November 1959 at Clarkston, Asotin Co., WA, at age 90. Florence Alma Downen died Thursday, July 21 2005, at Wedgewood Terrace in Lewiston.
She was born to Eben and Anna Butcher June 29, 1908, at Lucile.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald A. Downen; three sisters, Livina, Mabel and Pauline and one brother, Clayton.
Florence had a beauty shop in Grangeville for 12 years. After moving to Lewiston, she had many beauty shops and schools in both Lewiston and Clarkston.
She leaves a daughter, Elaine Downen of Lake Kiowa, Texas, a son, Jack A. Downen from Kettle Falls, Wash., a stepson, Donald Downen from Caldwell; and nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A sister, Stella, also survives.

He was a native of McMinnville and a son of the late J. B. and Leona Farless Butcher.
Mr. Butcher attended the University of Tennessee and was a graduate of King College, Bristol. He played football at both schools.
He was retired from Tennessee Eastman Co., after more than 35 years service.
Mr. Butcher was a charter member of Rosemont Presbyterian Church, where he served as deacon and trustee. He was also an elder in Leesburg Presbyterian Church.
He was a member of Leesburg Ruritan.

Riggins beautician suffers attack
RIGGINS -- Mabel Odell, a Riggins beauty salon operator for several years, died after a heart attack at her home Monday night. She was 68.
The daughter of E. W. and Anna Butcher, she was born in 1907 at Lucile. She was a member of a pioneer family on the Salmon River at Butcher Bar. She was divorced.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Rider of Whitebird; a son, Deward Cain of Sun Valley; four sisters, Florence Downen of Lewiston, Lavina Sullivan of Boise, Stella Bosworth of Buhl and Pauline Hoover of Twin Falls, and a brother, Clayton Butcher of Lewiston.
The funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Riggins IOOF Hall. Burial will be at Riggins Cemetery. Hansen-Noland Funeral Home of Grangeville is in charge of arrangements.

     Mildred Butcher was also known as "Millie".¹ She was born on 14 March 1883 at Missouri. She was the daughter of Joseph Milton Butcher and Lydia Ann Munson. Mildred Butcher married Robert Charles Schofield, son of William Stanwood Skolfield and Mary Ann Swett. Mildred Butcher died after 5 April 1940 at Los Angeles Co. (probably), CA.

     Ola Butcher was born on 9 December 1880 at Macomb, McDonough Co., IL. She was the daughter of Joseph Milton Butcher and Lydia Ann Munson. Ola Butcher married Leonard Augustus Young, son of James Young and Evelyn Bennett, on 4 July 1907 at Lake Co., IN. Ola Butcher died in May 1963 at age 82.

     Pauline Lydia Butcher was born on 30 October 1916 at Lucile, Idaho Co., ID. She was the daughter of Eben William Butcher and Anna Lydia Turnbull. Pauline Lydia Hoover, 85, of Twin Falls, died Tuesday, October 1, 2002, at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center. Pauline was born October 30, 1916, in Lucille, Idaho, to E. W. Butcher and Anna Lydia Butcher.
She was the youngest of 6 children. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1935. In 1937 she married Roland Van Erickson and he preceded her in death in October 1943 as a result of a military plane crash during WWII. Two children were born of that marriage. In September 1949 she married Harold Franklin Hoover and a daughter was born of their union. Pauline and Harold owned and operated the East 5 Points Trailer Court, formerly Hoover Trailer Court. Harold preceded Pauline in death December 29, 1990. Pauline is survived by her children, Larry Carol Erickson of Boise, Idaho, Christine Erickson of Olympia, Washington and Frankie John Kreps of Twin Falls; 2 stepchildren, Dave Jean Hoover of Thornton, Colorado, and Carol Coy Cross of Citrus Heights, California; two sisters, Sally Bosworth of Buhl, Idaho, and Florence Downen of Lewiston, Idaho; 14 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, two sisters Mable Odell and Lavina Sullivan, and by a brother Clayton Butcher. Pauline will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. She was generous and caring and never knew a stranger. The funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 5, 2002, at Reynolds Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Twin Falls Cemetery.      Sarah Malinda Butcher was born on 17 May 1906 at Corley, Braxton Co., WV.¹ She was the daughter of Cyrus C. Butcher and Virginia Alice Kniceley.² Sarah Malinda Butcher married Robert Harriston Windle, son of Andrew Mose Windle and Louisa S. Jennings, in 1927. BUHL -- Stella "Sally" Rose Bosworth, 94, a longtime Buhl resident, died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, at Bridgeview Estates Skilled Nursing Unit following a short illness.
Sally was born Oct. 8, 1911, in a house along the Salmon River south of Lucile, Idaho. She was the second youngest of four sisters and a brother. They were raised by their father and she told many stories of growing up on the farm with the horses, the orchard and the vegetable garden. After graduating from Grangeville High School she lived in various places and went to beauty school in Portland, Ore., before settling in Twin Falls where she met and married William Bosworth in 1945. In 1950, they adopted twin girls, DeeAnna and LeeAnna. Following the marriage they resided in Buhl, where they had an accounting office until they retired.
Bill and Sallie enjoyed many years together camping and fishing. They belonged to the rifle and pistol clubs and bowled for many years. They also raised a granddaughter, Cynthia. Sally was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Buhl until she was no longer able to attend. In later years, Bill and Sally enjoyed playing cards at various places. Sally loved to golf, especially with her grandson, Randall, and played a lot of duplicate bridge. The past few years her health and mind deteriorated somewhat and she lived at Bridgeview estates where she enjoyed playing bingo and other games. She belonged to the Red Hat Society and loved visits from her granddaughter and great-grandchildren.
Earlier this year she came home to live with Cynthia and the kids. She loved having the little ones around, liked participating in "tea parties" and became especially fond of ice cream! She liked to read, especially her gossip magazines and watch Wheel of Fortune. She always looked forward to her two eggs over-easy for breakfast and her two cups of tea a day. She was doing so well until her fall last month when she broke her hip. We were looking forward to having her home by Christmas. We will always remember her huge Thanksgiving turkey dinners and wonderful lemon meringue pies! She was really a wonderful cook. We will miss you Mom and Grandma!
Sally is survived by her daughters, DeeAnna (Keith) Barnes of Castleford and LeeAnna (Bud) Randall of Castleford; granddaughter, Cynthia Owsley of Buhl; granddaughter, Carina Latham of Twin Falls; grandsons, Randall (Misty) Barnes of Buhl and Willie (Brandi) Barnes of Twin Falls; great-grandchildren, Adrianna, Kassidy, Justin, Ryan, Kelsey, Taylor, Kyler, Emily, Diana, Robert and one that is due in May; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, all of her sisters, her brother and a grandson.
The family would like to thank Bridgeview Estates for their care recently and in the past when she was a resident. She really enjoyed her stay and loved all the nurses and aides, and especially the activities.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Buhl. A viewing will be held one hour before services begin at the church.
