Winona Mae Smith, 67, of 2111 S.E. Virginia Ave. died of a heart attack Wednesday at home. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith was born in Oskaloosa and lived in Des Moines most of her life. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include six daughters, Gloria Cutwright and Shonda Scannell, both of Des Moines, Teresa Keeling of Runnells, Connie Voyce of Altoona, Pam Riley of Waterloo and Donna Allyn of LaPlata, Mo; two sons, Donald Bitting and Jerry Bitting, both of Des Moines; a sister, Wynetta Mikesell of Des Moines; a brother, Harry Collings Jr. of Marshfield, Mo; 18 grandhildre; and nine great-grandchildren.

NORMA LEE PETETE
Norma Lee Petete was born on Friday, May 20, 1930 near the Dixie Camp west of Holdenville. She was the daughter of John S. Collis and Myrtle Collis. She died Saturday, May 28, in the Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City. She attended schools at Benedict, Holdenville, Indianapolis, Ind., California and graduated from Moss
School in 1948. After attending Draughon School of Business in Tulsa, she worked for the Department of Human Services for 34 years, retiring in August 1985. She married Spencer Petete August 24, 1952 in Van Buren Ark. Her mother and father died when she was very young and her aunt and uncle, Mable and Harry Etchison,
reared her and her sisters and brother.
She was a member of the Capitol Heights Missionary Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Spencer, and daughter Paula of the home; one son and daughter-in-law,
Richard and Kaye of Ada; two sisters and brother-in-law, Geraldine and G.L. Morris of Seminole; Joan and Wendell Andrews of Birmingham, Ala; One brother and sister-in-law, J.C. and Lucille Collis of Holdenville; her aunt, Mable French, Long Town, Okla. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Capitol Heights Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Jim Paxton officiating. Burial will be in the Holdenville cemetery, under the direction of Hudson Funeral Home.

     William Edgar Collis was born on 4 September 1911 at Ridgeway, Berkeley Co., WV. He married Esther Lee Lloyd on 4 November 1935 at Martinsburg, Berkeley Co., VA.      Joseph T. Collom was born on 7 November 1869 at Geneva, Crawford Co., PA. He married Lillie Etta Gillmore, daughter of Ephriam Bradley Gillmore and Mary Emily Hunt, on 18 October 1897 at Kansas City, Jackson Co., MO. Joseph T. Collom died on 13 April 1938 at Arlington, Fairfax Co., VA, at age 68.

     Joyce Collom was born circa 1924 at District of Columbia. She was the daughter of Vance Ralph Collom and Wilma Force.

     Vance Ralph Collom was born on 26 April 1902 at Pennsylvania. He was the son of Joseph T. Collom and Lillie Etta Gillmore. Vance Ralph Collom married Wilma Force on 30 December 1922. Vance Ralph Collom and Wilma Force were divorced before 17 February 1934; 1930 census shows Wilma's marital status "D." Vance Ralph Collom married Elizabeth Ledlum on 17 February 1934. Vance Ralph Collom died on 12 May 1989 at Nokomis, Sarasota Co., FL, at age 87.

     Elmira Collum was born circa 1815.¹ She married Ezra K. Price, son of William Lederach Price and Hannah Keeley.¹ Elmira Collum died on 27 July 1894.¹

     Etta Colman was born in March 1885 at Licking Co. (probably), OH, adopted, probably Licking County, Ohio, both parents born Ohio, per 1900 census.¹ She was the daughter of William T. Harrison and Lauretta A. (?)¹

     Betty M. Colson was born on 27 September 1921 at Pekin, Tazewell Co., IL.¹ She was the daughter of Halac R. Colson and Jessie Caroline Larimore.¹

     Clarence Dean Colson was born on 9 July 1929 at Pekin, Tazewell Co., IL.¹ He was the son of Halac R. Colson and Jessie Caroline Larimore.¹ Clarence Dean Colson married Donna Lee Hawkins, daughter of Robert Lee Hawkins and Wilma Ada Bright, on 3 February 1950 at Pekin, Tazewell Co., IL. Clarence Dean Colson died on 6 June 2011 at Pekin, Tazewell Co., IL, at age 81 Obituary (findagrave.com):

Son of Halac R. Sr. and Jessie Caroline (Larimore) Colson, he married Donna Lee Hawkins on Feb. 3, 1950, in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Janet (Don) Walker; one grandson, Robert Dean (Kimberly) Colson Jr; six granddaughters, Amber Colson, Annissa Stiles, Carrie Hammock, Rhonda Colson, Donna Walker and Katie Walker; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Ronald J. Colson and Robert Dean Colson Sr; two brothers; and two sisters.

Dean served in the United States Air Force and while in the service attended aircraft engine school, where his career in electronics began.

Following his discharge from the service, Dean started Colson's TV and Repair in Pekin. He later established Colson Radio Communications in 1950. He owned and operated Colson Radio until 2000, when his grandson assumed ownership of the company. He remained with the company as CEO until 2007, when he retired.

Along with his love for electronics, Dean had a passion for music. He played multiple instruments, but loved playing the saxophone the most. He was a part of the Dean Colson Combo and later the Dean Colson Trio. His music groups played special events throughout central Illinois for many years.

He was buried in June 2011, Cremation, Find A Grave Memorial# 71541968.

     Halac Colson Jr. was born circa 1913 at Tazewell Co., IL.¹ He was the son of Halac R. Colson and Jessie Caroline Larimore.¹ Halac Colson Jr. married Dorothy Hancock, daughter of Joseph Hancock, circa 1934.² Halac Colson Jr. lived on 13 April 1940 at 1912 Court Street, Pekin, Tazewell Co., IL.²

     Halac R. Colson was born on 15 September 1887 at Moultrie Co., IL. He was the son of Preston Colson and Rhoda M. Bennett. Halac R. Colson married Jessie Caroline Larimore, daughter of Andrew Jackson Larimore and Caroline Anthony, on 2 October 1911 at Peoria, Peoria Co., IL. Halac R. Colson died on 26 April 1972 at Tazewell Co., IL, at age 84. He was buried in April 1972 at Lakeside Cemetery, Pekin, Tazewell Co., IL, Find A Grave Memorial# 76943289.

     Helen Louise Colson was born on 28 January 1919 at Pekin, Tazewell Co., IL.¹ She was the daughter of Halac R. Colson and Jessie Caroline Larimore.¹ Helen Louise Colson married Virgil Wayne Watkins, son of Asa E. Watkins and Edith Mae Skaggs, on 21 September 1940 at Davenport, Scott Co., IA. Helen Louise Colson died on 7 October 2001 at Hopedale, Tazewell Co., IL, at age 82.      Preston Colson was born on 19 February 1847 at Shelby Co., IL. He married Rhoda M. Bennett on 18 June 1871 at Shelby Co., IL. Preston Colson died on 1 December 1932 at Shelby Co., IL, at age 85 Preston Colson, retired farmer and one of Windsor's oldest residents, died about 8:15 o’clock Wednesday evening at the family home. Death was due to infirmities of age. The funeral will be conducted at 11 o’clock Saturday morning from the Christian Church, with Rev. L. Z. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Ash Grove Cemetery, southeast of Windsor. Mr. Colson was born Feb. 19, 1847. He spent most of his life in the Gays, Ash Grove and Windsor communities, engaging in farming most of the time. His wife, Mrs. Rhoda Bennett Colson, whom he married on June 18, 1871, died about a year ago. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Bart Sexton, who has taken care of him since Mrs. Colson's death, and a foster son, Hal Colson of Pekin. Miss Minnie Bolin and John Bolin, both of Gays, are niece and nephew. Windsor - 2 Dec 1932.

He worked for 27 years for the Union Pacific Railroad, where he worked the last 23 years as an engineer.
