Rubye Floyd Davis
F, b. 22 November 1905, d. 18 March 2005
Rubye Floyd Davis was born on 22 November 1905 at Pittsburg, Camp Co., TX; daughter of ? Davis. Her obituary says she was orphaned by age 13, but I suspect that is not the full truth. She is not listed on the 1910 census of Pittsburg, Camp County, where she allegedly was born and where Juanita J. Davis, her alleged aunt as of 1920, was listed with other siblings. These were children of William Hanson and Mary Louise "Lou" (McGuire) Davis, who died there in 1903 and 1909, respectively. Using the 1900, 1910, and 1920 census information, Rubye theoretically could have been a daughter of Juanita's brother Arnold, born 1886, but Arnold's life and family are well documented and there's no evidence of a daughter born when he was only 18. The only other siblings of Juanita capable of having a child in 1905 were sisters Willie (1881), Eula (1883), and Katie (1888). Eula can be excluded because she married Oscar B. Bass about 1903 and had a daughter Geraldine born in 1904. That leaves Willie and Kate. Willie disappears completely from pubilcly available records after the 1900 census. Kate was in the household with her siblings in 1910, age 21, and she married William R. Matherly in 1912. Had she been the mother of Rubye, then Rubye surely would have been raised in the Matherly household, but instead she was iiving with her aunt Juanita as of the 1920 census. I suspect that Rubye was living in the Davis household headed by Charley Davis as of the 1910 census, and was deliberately omitted because she was the illegitimate daughter of one of his sisters, most likely (apparently deceased) Willie. DLB 2022.
She married Robert Edwards Wynne, son of Robert Montgomery Wynne and Virginia Page Giesler. Rubye Floyd Davis died on 18 March 2005 at Dallas, Dallas Co., TX, at age 99
