Herbert H. DeLong, York, Herbert H. DeLong, 85, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Manor Care Health Services-Dallastown. He was the husband of Ruth A. (Miller) DeLong to whom he was married for 36 years.

A Graveside Service will be held 11 a.m., April 10, 2017 at Salem Union Cemetery, 99 York Rd, Jacobus. Officiating the service will be his pastor, the Rev. Don Heindel.

Full Military honors will be provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements.

Born August 10, 1931 in Los Angeles, CA, he was a son of the late John and Anna (Toms) DeLong.

He was employed as a machinist for 25 years with Research Support Instruments in Hunt Valley, MD, working mainly on telescopes for space shuttles.

A United States Air Force Veteran of the Korean War, he was also a member of Church of the Open Door where he was part of the church's A.R.M.S Program and volunteered at the church library.

In addition to his volunteer work at the church, he also dedicated 27 years to the Margaret Moul Home. He enjoyed woodworking, photography, fishing, traveling and loved the numerous cruises he took with his wife.

In addition to his wife, Mr. DeLong is also survived by one son, Hugh DeLong of Durham, NC; two daughters, Elizabeth Mettetel of FL and JoAnna DeLong of Delta; one stepson, Greg Toot of Spring Grove; two stepdaughters, Deborah Grimm of York and Angela Toot of Georgia; 12 grandchildren; 15 great- grandchildren; two sisters, Lelah DeLong and Esther Jones; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Michael Toot; a great grandchild; and five siblings.

John Russell DeLong, 93, of Sparks, NV, passed away on July 8, 2014. He was born in Los Angeles, CA on June 14, 1921 to parents John Stewart DeLong and Anna Toms DeLong. He married Carolyn Catherine Rice on June 12, 1943. They lived in San Jose 53 years from 1959 to 2012.

John was employed by IBM for 41.5 years, most of the time as a Field Service Representative. He and Carolyn loved to travel, and saw much of the world. They went on 31 cruises plus many other ground-based tours. John was a master gardener, loved to fish and was an active genealogist.

John R DeLong is survived by his loving wife and girlfriend of 71 years, Carolyn, three daughters Colleen DeLong, San Jose, CA; Mary DeLong-Nelson, Roseburg, OR; Carole Deisenroth, Sparks, NV; and one son John Michael DeLong, La Honda, CA; as well as two sisters: Lelah DeLong, Virginia Beach, VA; Esther Jones, Lancaster, CA; and two brothers: Herbert, York, PA; and Russell, Austin, TX. He was preceded in death by his daughter Linda Cook. A Rosary Vigil will be held at Willow Glen Funeral Chapel on Weds July 30th at 7pm, 1039 Lincoln Ave, San Jose. A funeral mass will be held at St. Christopher Church on Thurs July 31 at 9:30am.
