FLORENCE E. CAPES

ROYAL CENTER--Services for Florence E. Capes, 95, formerly of Roann, Rt. 1, North Manchester, and Royal Center, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the United Methodist Church, Laketon.

She died at 12:32 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2001, in Chase Center, Logansport.

Born July 18, 1905, in Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of Bertram and Jeanette Shepard Dorton. She was married Feb. 14, 1927, in Goodland, to Lloyd E. Capes, who died April 14, 1985.

A homemaker, she was the oldest member of the United Methodist Chruch in Laketon. She also was a member of the ORder of Eastern Star #375, Royal Center, and was a Past Worthy Matron of the former Laurel Chapter of OES in Roann. She had been a member of the OES for more than 50 years, and was a former member of the Laketon Extension Homemakers.

Active in church, she liked to crochet and make crafts and was a fantastic grandmother.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Doris and Lewis Jenkins, Royal Center, and Marjorie and Robert Eib, Tucson, Ariz; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Sonya Capes, Galena, Mo; one brother, Norman Dorton, Michigan City; and one daughter-in-law, Myra Capes-Laubenstein, Huntington; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

One son and one brother preceded in death.

Pastor Robert Keck will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Laketon Cemtery, Laketon.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in Harrison-Metzger Funeral Home, Royal Center Chapel, where there will be an Order of Eastern Star memorial service at 7:30 p.m. and one hour before services in the church Thursday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Society and Heart Fund.

She was buried in March 2001 at Laketon Cemetery, Laketon, Wabash Co., IN, Findagrave #114406070.

Floris H. Marvel (nee Dorton), age 94, of Crown Point, born and raised in Hammond, passed away October 9, 2010. She is survived by her ten children: Carol "Peachie" (Ray) Cataldi, Jackie (late Jerry) Beeson, Janet Whitley, Robert (late Rose) Marvel, Jr., William (Sandy) Marvel, Benny (Martha) Marvel, Marge (Robert) Anderson, Bonnie Stephens, Ruthie (Bruce) Schafer, and Mary Anne Tigner; 37 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Also surviving is her brother Benny Dorton, and sister-in-law Ann Dorton. She was preceded in death by her husband: Robert, three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Ave., Schererville, Indiana, with Michele Tipton, Minister, officiating. Interment at Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond, Indiana.

Floris was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Munster. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed cooking. She was a sports fanatic and loved to play slot machines.

Lorraine D. Garrott passed away at her home in Brookston on Thursday, January 17, 2013. She died as she had lived her life with grace, courage, strength and faith in God. She was a graduate of Indiana University, and though she spent all of her adult life in the heart of Purdue country, she never waivered in her allegiance to her alma mater or to IU basketball.

Mrs. Garrott was blessed to have had two devoted and loving husbands who predeceased her, Glen B. Garrott, "the love of my life", and Herbert E. May, "the icing on my cake". She is survived by daughters, Chris G. Krok, of Indianapolis and Janet (Michael) Grella, of Seattle Wash; a son, Doug (Barb) Garrott, of Troy, Idaho; and three grandsons, Harry D. Garrott, of Albany, N.Y; Wade O. Garrott of Burke, Va; and Gillis G. Garrott currently serving our country in Afghanistan. Other survivors include nieces, nephews, cousins, all of their families, and many, many friends who enriched her life - and of course, her beloved cat, Pansy.

The family appreciates the care and kindness that was provided to Mrs. Garrott during her final illness by Comfort Keepers of Lafayette which enabled her to remain in her home - her most fervent wish.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2013, at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home of Brookston, and also from 12 p.m. (noon) until the time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Monday, January 21, 2013, at Brookston United Methodist Church; the Rev. KENTLAND-- Mary Harvey, 75, formerly of Kentland, died Sunday morning, June 1, in her residence at Friendship House on Cumberland Avenue in West Lafayette.

Mrs. Harvey owned and operated E&M Cafe in Kentland for several years and worked for Dormyer Industries also in Kentland.

Born in Kewanna on June 8, 1921, she lived in Goodland and Kentland most of her life and moved to West Lafayette 10 years ago.

She married Earl Smith in 1940, and he died in 1941 (sic). She married Donald Harvey in 1943.

Mrs. Harvey was the past president of the Friendship House Council in West Lafayette.

Surviving are three sons, James Smith of Kentland, David Harvey of Watseka, Ill., and Marvin Harvey of Brook; three daughters, Jane Vale of West Lafayette, Martha Render of Brook and Mary Beth Plunk of Winchester, Ky; and a sister, Phyllis Golinvaux of Dubuque, Iowa.

She was buried in June 1997 at Saint Josephs Cemetery, Kentland, Newton Co., IN, Findagrave #148596849.
