     Note: A Mrs. Lydia A. DeVault married McChesney Wagner on 2 June 1891 in Washington County, Tennessee. This may be our Lydia Ann (Douglas) DeVault. If so, the marriage did not last and she went back to using her first married name.

Thelma Arnold, 95, of Sherman, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away at The Villa East in Sherman on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 3:20 p.m.

Thelma was born March 10, 1916 in East St. Louis, the daughter of Jacob and Ruth Dour; both preceded her in death.

Thelma graduated from East St. Louis High School in 1934. She attended Summers Business College and earned a degree in Senior Secretarial Management. Thelma worked at St. Clair Finance Company from 1935 to 1942. In 1963, Thelma worked for Club Aluminum Products Company. She was the Secretary to Treasurer of the company until 1968. Thelma was a member of the East St. Louis Junior Women's Club, Beta Sigma Phi life member. Thelma was active in her church community throughout her life, where she held various positions.

She married Ray C. Arnold on January 17, 1947 and they had one daughter, Karen Lee. Thelma was known for her wicked sense of humor and friends would comment how she lit up any room she entered. She enjoyed music and took piano lessons as a child at the Lieber School of Music during the Depression. She enjoyed playing cards and was a member of several bridge clubs throughout her life.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ray C. Arnold; her sister, Annabelle Crow; and brother, Harold Dour.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Briscoe, of St. Charles, MO; grandchildren, Tere Brun of Apopka, FL and Alison Briscoe of Bayside, TX; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews across the country.

Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.

Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on March 3, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, Springfield with Pastor Bob Ervin officiating.

Wife Wins Divorce From S. F. Attorney

Mrs. Vere D. MacMillan yesterday in Reno secured a divorce from her husband, Clifford J. MacMillan, San Francisco attorney, living at 815 Carmel Avenue, Berkley, according to an Associated Press dispatch from the Nevada City. Desertion was given as grounds for the action. The complaint stated that the couple was married in Pasadena on June 22, 1920, and that there are no children. A property settlement was made out of court. MacMillan was appointed State Corporation Commissioner in September, 1928 by ex-Governor Richardson, succeeding Edwin M. Daugherty, who had resigned.

Note: It appears that Vere got the house at 815 Carmel Avenue, Albany, Alameda County, California in the divorce. She was living there with her mother in 1930 and with her mother and her second husband, Harold C. McCleary in 1940. Vere married Leslie W. Wilson in 1949.

Vere E. Dove died in November 1986 at age 88.
