Milford E. Dowler, 76, formerly of Parkersburg, died Saturday, June 12, 2010, at St. Johns Hospital in Houston, Texas.

He was born Dec. 13, 1933, in Mineral Wells, Wood County, a son of the late William and Dora Dowler.

After taking early retirement from his career at DuPont, he owned and operated M & D Contractors, a local General Contracting company. Actively involved in community service, he was a member of Fort Neal Kiwanis Club, where he served as a board member. As the 1986 Fort Neal Kiwanis Club President, both he and the club were recognized as a Single Service Honor Club and spearheaded the 1986 Parkersburg Bicentennial Celebration.

He helped with the Parkersburg Safety Town Program for pre-schoolers, the Parkersburg Beautification Project, and Special Olympics. He was a veteran of the Army where he served as Specialist Fifth Class for the Headquarters Company of the 1092nd Engineer Battalion. He also served for 3 years in the Army Reserve. After retiring from construction, Mr. Dowler and his wife relocated to Houston, Texas.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Barbara A. Dowler of League City, Texas; his children, John E. Dowler of Hockingport, Ohio, J. Scott Dowler of Parkersburg, Melissa and husband, Jeff Conway, of Dickinson, Texas, and Melody Dowler of League City, Texas; seven grandchildren; and two brothers, Wayne Dowler and wife, Thelma, of Parkersburg and Frank Dowler and wife, Betty, of Parkersburg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Parkersburg, with Pastor Billy Batten officiating and military honors by American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the cemetery.

He was buried in June 2010 at Sunset Memory Gardens, Parkersburg, Wood Co., WV, Findagrave #91600660.

Richard P. Dowler, 78, of Davisville, passed away Dec. 24, 2002, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 6, 1924, in Wood County, a son of the late William and Dora Yoho Dowler. He was an equipment operator for Bosley Construction, and he attended Big Tygart United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his ex-wife, Mable Dowler; one son, Eric Dowler of Davisville; four daughters, Paulette Lemon and Erica Dowler of Davisville, Ronda Lynch of Washington and Connie Dowler of Baton Rouge, La; four brothers, Virgil Dowler of Mineral Wells, Wayne and Frank Dowler of Parkersburg and Milford Dowler of Texas; one sister, Mamie Drain of Parkersburg; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Leona Morris, Eloise Dowler, and Freida Batten; and two brothers, Etsel and Gene Dowler.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with the Pastor Michael Lamb officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Virgil N. Dowler, 92, of Mineral Wells, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2009, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born Jan. 6, 1917, in Jackson County, a son of the late William and Dora Yoho Dowler.

Virgil enjoyed hunting and fishing, and after his retirement from DuPont, spent much of his time farming and gardening. He was a 50-year Mason, past president of the South Parkersburg Lions Club as well as the Mountain State Sportsmen Association. He operated service stations for many years and worked as a boilermaker prior to going to work at DuPont. He was a U.S. Navy veteran from World War II.

He is survived by two sons, Norman Dowler and wife, Linda, of Southaven, Miss., and Bernard Dowler and wife, Ann, of Ripley; two daughters, Linda Donahue and husband, Larry, of Mineral Wells and Charlotte Bumgarner and husband, David, of Parkersburg; three brothers, Wayne, Lester and Milford; one sister, Mamie; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah; and five brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., south Parkersburg. Interment will follow at Evergreen South Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
