Note: Tracy Devault's notes:
The identification of Fred's parents takes a little explaining. First, there is a genealogy on Ancestry.com that says Fred was born in Wyoming. (Also, the Find-A-Grave memorial has copied the information from this genealogy into the memorial.) There is no evidence to support the contention that Fred was born in Wyoming. All census records show that Fred was born in New York. We first find Fred and his mother listed in the 1870 Census for Alexander, Genesee County, New York. The census record says Fred was born in April 1869. His mother is listed as Anna Eckerson, born in New York about 1844. No father is in the census record. However, Anna and son Fred are neatly nested between her parents Mainard and Rebecca Lapp's family and her brother Hibbard Lapp's family. By 1880, Fred's family, father Charles W. Eckerson, mother Anna, Fred (listed as Frederick) and sister Lulu are living in Creston, Union County, Iowa. Father Charles died in Creston and was buried there. By 1900, the rest of the family had moved on to Illinois. Mother Anna and daughter Lulu (now listed as Louisa) are shown living in Beardstown, Cass County, Illinois. Fred has now married but he, wife and first child are also living in Cass County, Illinois. Eventually Anna died. Her body was returned to Creston where she was buried next to her husband. They have a nice stone in the Graceland Cemetery in Creston.
