Mabel Eisele Hampton, born in Bennet, Nebraska on May 25, 1914, passed away July 1, 1999. She was a 1936 graduate of the University of Nebraska. Subsequent to her 1944 enlistment with the United States Army, she became the first commissioned regular army occupational therapist. Ultimately achieving the rank of Major, her military career included both domestic and European postings until her retirement in 1964. A thirty three-year resident of El Paso, she was recognized as one of America's most prominent breeders of champion Dachshunds, earning numerous national and international awards and championships. She was a member and benefactor of numerous local organizations. Preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Wade F. Hampton, she leaves behind many relatives and friends and will be missed by all of those people whose life she touched. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 7, 1999, from 3:00 to 9:00P.M. at Kaster-Maxon Futrell Funeral Home. Services will be held on Thursday, July 8, 1999 at 1:00P.M. at Fort Bliss Center Chapel #1 followed by internment in Fort Bliss National Cemetery." She was buried on 8 July 1999 at Ft.
