Death of Daniel Emmert.

Daniel Emmert died suddenly at his home, November 17, 1902, nine miles northeast of Red Oak on Monday morning, presumably from heart disease. While storing vegetables in the cellar he dropped dead. Only two of the daughters were at home at the time, Mrs. Emmert being at a neighbor's on an errand.

The funeral services were held in Pleasant Lawn United Presbyterian church Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock and were conducted by Rev. D. M. Montgomery, assisted by Rev. S. E. Dubois. There was a very large attendance of friends. Interment was in the Red Oak (Evergreen) cemetery.

Mr. Emmert had lived in this county 32 years. He was an excellent citizen, highly respected and esteemed by all who knew him. He was born in Carroll county, Illinois, February 9, 1844, and came to this county in 1870. He was a member of the United Presbyterian church of Pleasant Lawn, and had been a church member since 22 years of age.

Mrs. Emmert and eight children survive him. The children are Frank Emmert, Mrs. Nellie Keim, Mrs. Mamie Elliott, Mrs. Grace Lathrop, Mrs. Edith Selser, and Misses Mamie, Nannie and Elizabeth.

     David Emmert was born on 22 March 1804 at Emmertsville, Washington Co., MD. He was the son of Pastor John Emmert and Nancy Avey. David Emmert married Susan Price, daughter of Rev. Jacob Price and Susanna Baker, in 1825.¹ Occupation: County judge and minister. Per 1913 History of Carroll County:

"… a correct history of Mount Carroll cannot be written without giving David Emmert and his family credit for the important part they took in the very beginning of Mount Carroll, which started with the building of the mill, nor the history of the press of Mount Carroll without including his family." in 1850. David Emmert died on 30 September 1857 at Carroll Co., IL, at age 53 suddenly in Mt. Carroll, Ill., on 30th Sept. our much esteemed brother David Emmert, aged 53. Settled in this country in 1839 and did much in building up the church here and improving the neighborhood. His death leaves a vacancy which cannot be easily filled. He was called to the ministry about four years ago. Leaves a widow and 8 children. From Gospel Visitor, Dec. 1857.¹

     David E. Emmert was born on 21 July 1851 at Carroll Co., IL. He was the son of Jacob P. Emmert and Catherine Dubbel. David E. Emmert died on 28 October 1851 at Carroll Co., IL. He was buried in October 1851 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll, Carroll Co., IL, Findagrave #195330712.

     Denton B. Emmert was born on 26 February 1915.¹ He was the son of Rev. Harvey Denton Emmert and Leila M. Boerner.¹

     Donald Redburn Emmert was born on 28 November 1901 at Dallas Co., TX.¹ He was the son of Elmer Stover Emmert and Ida Julia Quinche.¹ Donald Redburn Emmert married Grace Lockwood Sanderson on 16 June 1925 at Home of Mr. & Mrs. Robert Ward, Morris, Okmulgee Co., OK, ceremony by Rev. J. C. Donnell. This marriage was over before March, 1939 when Don remarried to Virginia (Kaufman) Higginbotham. No evidence of children. Donald Redburn Emmert lived on 9 April 1930 at Denver, Denver Co., CO, salesman, rubber goods.² He married Virginia Kaufman on 9 March 1939 at Sebastian Co., AR, license date and ceremony date. Donald Redburn Emmert died on 1 March 1964 at Midland, Midland Co., TX, at age 62. He was buried in March 1964 at Fairview Cemetery, Midland, Midland Co., TX, Findagrave #41542283.

     Dorothy Emmert was also known as "Dollie".¹ She was born on 1 September 1888 at Kansas 1900 census shows her birth year as 1885, but all other censuses including the 1895 Kansas state census, are consistent with 1888, in addition to her California death index record.¹ She was the daughter of Joseph Hershey Emmert and Nancy Frances Gloyd.¹ Dorothy Emmert married Warren A. Krimmel on 25 June 1932 at Wood Co., OH, Dorothy married Clyde N. Smyser on 3 SEP 1906, Sedgwick County, Kansas. She married Francis H. McSorley on 14 JUL 1915 at Chicago, Cook County, Illnois, and divorced him as of 28 APR 1927, Wayne County, Michigan. She had no children. Dorothy Emmert lived on 10 April 1940 at Riverside, Riverside Co., CA.² She died on 9 March 1943 at Riverside Co., CA, at age 54.

     Dorothy Virginia Emmert was born on 6 May 1915 at Davenport, Scott Co., IA. She was the daughter of Merritt Gloyd Emmert and Lelah M. Johnson. Dorothy Virginia Emmert lived in April 1930 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., WV.¹ She lived on 4 April 1940 at 636 Eddy Road, Cleveland, Cuyahoga Co., OH, restaurant hostess.² She married Raymond C. Hahn, son of Charles Hahn and Olive Belle Hayworth, on 20 July 1940 at Cuyahoga Co., OH, Dorothy later remarried to a Peterson about 1974, and to a Tobiasen about 1985. Dorothy Virginia Emmert died on 15 August 1987 at Riverside Co., CA, at age 72. She was buried in August 1987 at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, Calimesa, Riverside Co., CA, cremains scatterd in the Rose Garden, Findagrave #79520190.

     Dudley O'Neal Emmert was born on 17 August 1906 at Mt. Carroll, Carroll Co., IL.¹ He was the son of Percival Redfield Emmert and Amy O'Neal. Dudley O'Neal Emmert married Mary Elizabeth Weeman, daughter of King Henry Weeman Sr. and Minnie May Miller, on 24 November 1933 at Presbyterian Church, Shawano, Shawano Co., WI. Dudley O'Neal Emmert and Mary Elizabeth Weeman were divorced before 1957; Mary was remarried to Gladdon Pickett by 1957 when they were listed in the Delray Beach, Florida city directory. On 1 DEC 1959, she arrived at Port Everglades, Miami, Florida on the Santa Rosa. Dudley O'Neal Emmert married Jeanne C. Stegemann in 1966. Dudley O'Neal Emmert died on 3 February 1990 at age 83 birth and death dates per SSDI.² He was buried in February 1990 at Saint Johns Lutheran Cemetery, Newtonburg, Manitowoc Co., WI, Findagrave #174736803.

     Edith Ethel Emmert was born on 23 February 1882.¹ She was the daughter of Daniel Emmert and Sarah E. Pyle. Edith Ethel Emmert married Robert Selser on 1 January 1902.¹

     Elizabeth Emmert was born on 2 March 1860 at Woodland Twp., Carroll Co., IL.^1,2 She was the daughter of Jonathan Emmert and Lydia Hershey.¹ Elizabeth Emmert lived on 8 June 1880 at Rose Hill Twp., Johnson Co., MO.³ She married John Aldam Byerly, son of Benjamin Byerly and Delilah (?), on 1 October 1884 at Centerview, Johnson Co., MO. Elizabeth Emmert lived on 2 June 1900 at Post Oak Twp., Johnson Co., MO, farming.² She died on 13 December 1933 at Elk City, Beckham Co., OK, at age 73

Byerly, Sister Elizabeth Emmert, born March 2, 1860, in Mt. Carroll, Ill, died at Elk City, Olka., Dec. 13, 1933. Oct. 1, 1884, she married John A Byerly at Centerview, Mo. To this union were born four children, three of whom survive. in youth she became a member of the Church of the Brethren and lived faithful until death. Services by the writer in Elk City. Burial in the Elk City cemetery. - Geo. R. Eller, Cordell, Okla.

Final rites for Mrs Elizabeth Emmerte Byerly, 73, who died suddenly Wednesday of a heart aliment, were conducted here at 2:30 o’clock this afternoon. Officiating minister was Rev. George Eller, minister of the Church of the Brethern at Cordell.

The aged woman had made her home for the past four (?) months in their entirety. Third street. Prior to that time she lived at 601 East Third street. She had lived in Beckham county for 23 years. She came here in 1910 with her husband John A. Byerly who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Byerly was born March 2 1860 at Mount Carroll, Illinois. She was married Mr. Byerly at Centerview, Mo., October 1 1883. Together they came to the Indian territory in 1901 and located here in 1910.

Surviving Mrs. Byerly are two daughters and a son and 23 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The daughters are Miss Marietta Byerly, instructor in the schools at Poteau, and Mrs. Leola Wolf, of Jones.

Burial was made in the Fairlawn Cemetery.

     Elizabeth O'Neal Emmert was born on 23 February 1909 at Wisconsin.¹ She was the daughter of Percival Redfield Emmert and Amy O'Neal. Occupation: Registered nurse, private hospital on 13 April 1940 at Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., CA.² Elizabeth O'Neal Emmert married John Swinski, son of Peter Swinski and Mary Gimeiroski, on 14 November 1942 at Little Church of the Flowers, Glendale, Los Angeles Co., CA, ceremony by Rev. Harold E. Broughton, pastor of First Methodist Church of Los Angeles. John apparently had a previous marriage, as he was listed as divorced on the 1940 census.

Cannot ascertain how long this marriage lasted -- she was a Simpson at the time of her death. No evidence of any children.

Elizabeth O'Neal Emmert died on 22 November 1981 at Los Angeles Co., CA, at age 72.

Emmert married Clara Hammond, daughter of Charles M. Hammond and Millie Ruthrauff, on 24 May 1903, Ceremony by Rev. A. E. Kepford.¹ Occupation: Editor, Dallas Center Times in 1926 at Dallas Center, Dallas Co., IA.¹

     Elmer Stover Emmert was born on 18 May 1868 at Humboldt, Allen Co., KS.¹ He was the son of David B. Emmert and Margaret Davis Moffett. Elmer Stover Emmert married Ida Julia Quinche, daughter of Charles Quinche and Emilu Redburn, on 16 October 1889 at Topeka, Shawnee Co., KS.¹ Elmer Stover Emmert lived on 1 June 1900 at 702 S.E. Walker St., Houston, Harris Co., TX.² He lived in April 1910 at 327 North Sixth Street, Muskogee, Muskogee Co., OK, general agent, pipeline.³ Occupation: Firm of Emmert Bros. Insurance, Muskogee. He was Congregational. He died in 1956. He was buried in 1956 at Rose Hill Memorial Park, Tulsa, Tulsa Co., OK, Findagrave #77160117.

     Emery A. Emmert was born on 22 January 1883 at Adel, Dallas Co., IA. He was the son of George Melvin Emmert and Sarah Wagner. Emery A. Emmert married Martina Frances Foss, daughter of John A. Foss and Anna Monson, on 8 March 1911 at Kalispell, Flathead Co., MT. Emery A. Emmert died on 5 September 1968 at Flathead Co., MT, at age 85. No children.¹ Francis Edwin Emmert lived on 5 June 1900 at 249 North Ashland Ave., Chicago, Cook Co., IL.³ He was Methodist Episcopal.⁴ He died on 30 July 1924 at Mt. Carroll, Carroll Co., IL, at age 62.¹

     Frank George Emmert was born on 10 October 1872.¹ He was the son of Daniel Emmert and Mary Ann Strickler. Frank George Emmert married Anne Hull on 28 February 1898.¹

     Frank J. Emmert was born on 11 August 1880. He was the son of John Stouffer Emmert and Mary Lytle.

     George Emmert was born on 10 February 1809 at Washington Co., MD.¹ He was the son of Pastor John Emmert and Nancy Avey. George Emmert married Catherine Stouffer, daughter of John Stouffer and Hannah Price, in 1831.

     George Melvin Emmert was born on 13 December 1856 at Carroll Co., IL.¹ He was the son of Christian Emmert and Mary E. Long.¹ George Melvin Emmert married Sarah Wagner, daughter of Michael Wagner Sr. and Susana Bowman, on 29 March 1877 at Dallas Co., IA.
