DUMAS - Christine "Chris" Owens, 72, died Thursday, July 7, 2011.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church in Dumas with Sam White, pastor of North Plains Christian Church in Dumas, officiating. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens by Morrison Funeral Directors.

Chris was born July 2, 1939, in Lockwood, Mo., to Ralph and Alma Fesler. She married Harold Owens in March 1987 in Dumas. They shared their life together in the Dumas community.

Chris was employed as an LVN until her retirement. She touched the lives of everyone for whom she cared. She was involved in the community, actively volunteering for Memorial Hospice and Meals on Wheels. She was truly one of the few "angels" here on Earth. She was a member of North Plains Christian Church, where she actively gave of her time. She was the Lord's servant to others.

Chris was very devoted to her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was dearly loved by her family and everyone that knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Alma Fesler.

Survivors include her husband, Harold; five daughters, Pam Farni and husband Danny, Vickie Holt and husband Gary, and Gerrie Taylor and husband Steve, all of Dumas, Sharlet Muskrat and husband Terry of Porum, Okla., and Terrie Owens of Kentucky; a son, Rowdy Rhoades and wife Cindy of Dumas; a sister, Maxine Chadwick and husband Stanley of Wilmer; a brother, Bill Fesler and wife Theresa of Lampasas; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and special friends, Bill and Joye Watson.

The family suggests memorials be to Memorial Hospice, 224 E. Second St., Dumas, TX 79029; North Plains Christian Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 742, Dumas, TX 79029; or Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1535, Dumas, TX 79029.

Auto Accident Fatal

Funeral of Mrs. Denny Waters held -

The funeral of Mrs. Denny Waters, of Bethesada, Montgomery county, who was fatally injured in an automobile accident Sunday night whilte on the way from Frederick to her home, was held Friday afternonn with interment at Romney, W.Va. Some of the relatives and friends of the deceased from Frederick county attended the funeral.

Services were conducted at the home Thursday evening by Rev. Dr. Zimmerman, pastor of a Lutheran church in Baltimore. The following morning the body was taken to Romney.

The accident occurred about 9:30 o'clock last Sunday night September 14, near Cedar Grove. The party, which consisted of Mr. and Mrs. Denny Waters, of Bethesda; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Matheny, of Washington, and Miss Helen Reinhart, of Bethesda had spent the day with Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Shank of Woodsboro. About 8 o'clock they left Frederick for Bethesda. There is a double "S" curve near Cedar Grove and while turning one curve, the left front wheel of the machine gave way and went to pieces. The machine overturned and all of the occupants were thrown out.

Mrs. Waters was thrown over the heads of the two men on the front seat and was hurled some distance in front of the car. She was horribly bruised and cut. others in the car were cut and bruised but not seriously. Mrs. Waters was rushed to the Georgetown University Hospital where an operation was performed, but she never regained consciousness, and she died on Tuesday. Mr. Matheny has been kept at the hospital for treatment but is now out of danger.

Mr. Waters was born and raised in Frederick county and is cousin of C. C. Waters of Thurmont.

Cause of death: Automobile accident. She was buried in September 1919 at Indian Mound Cemetery, Romney, Hampshire Co., WV.
