Victor C. Houdek 82, of Greenwood, passed away Monday, March 21, 2005 at St. Francis Hospital. He was born February 11, 1923 in Ft. Atkinson, Iowa. His parents were Henry and Anna Houdek. He married Roberta H. (Rosebrock) Houdek on August 14, 1945 in Indianapolis. She preceded him in death on November 14, 2002. He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen (Ron) Bultman; his son, James (JoAnn) Houdek; four grandchildren, Michele Marr, Jimmy Houdek, Grant and Melissa Bultman and three great grandchildren, Zachary, Lucas, and Olivia. He was preceded in death by his brother William Houdek and sister Wilma Smith. He was a US Air Force Staff Sergeant of WW II. He was a printer at the Indianapolis Times for 20 years and the Indianapolis Star News for 20 years before retiring in 1985. He was a member of Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church, the Greenwood American Legion Post No. 252 and the Greenwood VFW Post No. 5874. Monsignor Mark Svarczkopf will conduct a service at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 24 at G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home, 1605 S. St. Rd. 135. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23 at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens where military graveside rites will be conducted. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Funeral services for Callie Hooper, age 76, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 29, 2005 at Hart Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Spade Mountain Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home.

She was born on December 20, 1928 at her home in Stilwell, Oklahoma. She died Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at her home in Park Hill, Oklahoma. She was married to Dale Hooper on January 15, 1951, in Van Buren, Arkansas. Callie loved to travel and go camping, but most of all she cherished the time she spent with her family. She was a member of the Park Hill Baptist Church.

Callie is preceded in death by her infant daughter in 1955, her father, Arthur Springwater and mother Agness Ruth Starr, and her brother, Bluford Starr.

Callie is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dale Hooper, of the home in Keys Community in Park Hill; four daughters, Carol Sue Brown of Park Hill, Brenda Crawford of Tahlequah, Floretta Burris and Coretta Fitzgerald both of Wichita, KS; two sisters, Inola Bunch and Louella Bunch of Stilwell, OK; ten grandchildren, Ronnie Burris, Todd White, Daylene Gomez, Yvette Brizuela, Lorissa Drywater, Christian White, Jeremy Kruse, Mark Brown, Christine Bickford, Devinee Fitzgerald; and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Son of William H Dale Clyde Hooper was born December 25, 1929, in Boston, Arkansas to William Hooper and Ida (Newman) Hooper. He passed away February 22, 2012, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma at the age of 82 years, 1 month and 27days.

Dale was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a retired welder and owned Hooper's Iron Works, in the Keys community, for over 20 years. On March 1, 2006, he married his second wife, Leona Pritchett, in Stilwell, Oklahoma.

Dale never met a stranger. Everyone that knew him, knew he always had a smile on his face and a story to tell. He was the happiest person you could ever meet. His chuckle leaves a mark in all our hearts. Dale's hobbies included fishing, gardening, camping, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Ida Hooper, brothers, Dick Hooper and Denver Hooper, sister, Alpha Hodge and his first wife of over 50 years, Callie Hooper.

Stilwell, Okla., Feb. 28.--Near Church, twelve or fifteen miles northeast of Stilwell, a shooting occurred in which Henry Locust was killed and at the same place a cutting scrape took place in which several parties were hurt. It is alleged that Riley Starr, a brother-in-law of Locust, did the shooting. From reports which have reached here there was plenty of booze, and the killing resulted from tis kind of a condition. Starr has not been captured.

Locust was killed in a drunken orgy a week ago yesterday. John Sawney and Nelson Teehe are reported to have been badly cut in the same encounter. They will recover. It is expected that following Starr's preliminary hearing he will apply to District Judge J. H. Jarman for bail.

Stilwell, Okla., March 29.--It is justifiable for you to kill the man who chases you with a gun, Justice of the Peace Nance held here at the preliminary trial of Riley Starr who shot and killed his brother-in-law Henry Locust near Church on Sunday Feb. 25. Starr was discharged without introducing any evidence in his own behalf. It was testimony that Starr, Locust and several other full blood Indians had been drinking whiskey and that when Starr passed Locust's house en route to his own home, Locust started after Starr with a gun. Starr was also armed. He is said to have warned Locust not to pursue him. Locust refused whereupon Starr shot him down.
